Plasma Cutting Robot Operator

ACL Steel is a privately owned company with over 30 years of experience in design, manufacture, and erection of steel products. We offer a range of services including fast track, design-build, fabrication, and erection of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, steel deck, and siding.

**The Opportunity**

Hours Per Week: 44 hours / per week

Shift: Monday to Thursday 5pm to 4am

ACL Steel Ltd is looking for a machine operator to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the plasma cutting robot. This position requires critical thinking, blueprint reading and great attention to detail.

**Responsibilities**

• Operate and maintain robotic thermal cutting machine.
• Set up and operate heavy-duty metal-working machines.
• Inspect and maintain machinery and equipment.
• Advise Shop Forman when procurement of products, equipment and consumables as require.
• Read work order, maintain delivery date and schedules.
• Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
• Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions, faulty operation and or defective material can be detected, and notify supervisor of any malfunctions.
• Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
• Stop machines to remove finished workpieces, or to change tools, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required sequences.
• Modify drilling programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
• Calculate machine speed and feed ratios.
• Insert control instruction into the machine control units to start operation.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with drawing and fabrication specifications.

**Experience & Education**

• 2 years relevant machine operation experience, plasma, robot and flame cutting.
• Blueprint reading.
• Overhead crane experience, ability to obtain certification.
• Manual dexterity, attention to detail, good time management skills.
