**Research Coordinator, Sunnybrook Research Institute**
**Status: Temporary Full-Time, 2-year term **with the possibility of renewal**
The Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking a temporary full-time (2-year contract) **Research Coordinator **to join Dr. Natalie Coburn’s research team and assist with a CIHR-funded, interprovincial project on the development of prediction modeling tools for gastrointestinal cancers. This individual will have the opportunity to join an established research program of clinical epidemiologists and clinicians investigating predictive tools for clinical and patient-reported outcomes. The successful applicant is expected to possess attention to detail; be able to communicate effectively at all levels; exhibit initiative; work well with others and independently; and comply with all Sunnybrook Research Institute procedures.
Research Project Description
Given that the navigation of cancer diagnosis and treatment is a tremendous burden to patients and their families, there is a recognized need to empower patients with patient-centered care and shared decision-making. Our project aims to develop comprehensive prediction models using large, population-level data from multiple provinces and cutting-edge methodology, to deliver personalized cancer care and integrate shared decision-making among patients and health care providers. Our multi-disciplinary team of patients, cancer survivors, oncologists, researchers, and policy-makers are working towards building a unique, web-based interactive platform, called OurCancerCareTools.ca, to provide Canadians with individualized risk information to support them in their cancer journey, from diagnosis to treatment and end of life.
Key Responsibilities of Research Project
- Coordinate the development of prediction models using patient-centered outcomes in cancer care
- Coordinate development of analytic approaches and carrying out advanced statistical analyses using healthcare administrative data (ICES, PRESTO, OH-CCO)
- Engaging in all aspects of research projects: draft Research Ethics Board (REB) protocols; validate data; analyze data; prepare, submit and present conference abstracts; and draft and submit journal manuscripts/book chapters
- Assisting in developing quantitative and descriptive data analyses including multivariable modelling, regression modeling, bivariate tests, and parametric and nonparametric modeling scenarios
- Working closely with the data analyst to ensure proper and timely analysis of the data
- Drafting and preparing grant reports, manuscripts, presentations and abstracts
- Monitoring project timelines, liaise with team members to ensure timely completion of projects
- Coordination of projects across multiple sites
- Budget management
- Providing additional support in ongoing research of the team, as appropriate
Skills and Qualifications
- PhD, DrPH, ScD or DPhil, or Master’s with a minimum of three years’ experience, in epidemiology, statistics, health services research or related disciplines
- Strong quantitative research skills with the ability to independently design analytical methods
- Strong data management and analytic skills, (e.g., cohort creation, defining variables, and analytic techniques such as multilevel modelling and survival analysis)
- Previous experience using large population-based, administrative datasets (ICES, CIHI, Medicare)
- Previous experience using machine learning is considered an asset
- Previous experience producing research, including seeing projects through from grant writing to publication and knowledge translation
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision while achieving specific goals within specific timeframes
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage various projects and prioritize work load and timelines
- Ability to be flexible and work under tight deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Prior experience:
- Two to three years of epidemiologic, public health, or health services research experience.
