Engagement Manager

We have partnered with a local accounting firm to assist in the search for a new Engagement Manager to join their growing team This firm has strong roots in the city of Winnipeg supporting a number of small to medium sized business clients. This position is responsible for organizing, planning and leading assurance, accounting and tax engagements. This individual will be delegating work effectively and resolving staffing issues. In addition, the Engagement Manager will contribute to a flexible, stable, and team-oriented working culture that fosters development and a positive attitude.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Execute a variety of corporate, personal, trust and partnership assignments including planning, compliance, provision and controversy matters;
- Complete audit processes and document higher-risk areas to increase technical and business skills in areas including revenue, financial instruments and income taxes;
- Engage clients and provide authoritative advice and professionalism throughout transactions;
- Develop/maintain strong working relationships with key business decision makers throughout the year to communicate value and inform them of the firm's scope of services;
- Provide guidance/expertise and participate in the performance of audit procedures, especially focusing on complex and/or specialized issues;
- Collaborate to plan objectives and determine an audit strategy that appropriately addresses risk;
- Establish the expectations of the value to be delivered. Successfully monitor the engagement team against the budget, and alter if necessary;
- Provide timely and high-quality services and work products that exceed client expectations;
- Working with junior staff to execute assignments with accuracy and completeness.
- Identify opportunities for providing tax planning and other special services and contribute to thought leadership materials;
- Demonstrate professionalism through a positive attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products;
- Suggest practical, effective and client-focused solutions and draw relevant conclusions
- Maintain continuous interaction with clients, manage expectations and ensure outstanding client service;
- Determine all information required to ensure/complete accurate tax compliance products within the budget;
- Formulate a plan to gather/communicate information;
- Oversee the issues management process and adapt to challenges in the compliance process;
- Share knowledge to develop professionally and enhance service delivery;
- Facilitate open communication and supervise staff and peers. Participate in recruiting efforts when necessary;
- Leverage technology to maximize productivity.
**Skills and Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree specializing in accounting;
- CPA designation is required;
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience in tax and assurance;
- Excellent analytical, multi-tasking, communication, organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
- PC proficiency including MS Office, ProFile, Caseware, Caseview, Keystone or equivalent software;
- Ability to manage time spent against budget and work with team members to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner;
- Excellent supervisory, analytical, and leadership ability;
- A commitment to learning in a tax technology environment;
- Strong project management and organizational skills;
- Process oriented with excellent documentation skills;
- Proven business development skills;
- Mature, proactive, committed, highly motivated and driven team player.
