Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) is one of nine programs within the Education Portfolio in the Dean's Office at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Schulich). Within a distributed medical education environment, the Postgraduate Medical Education Program is responsible for supporting 54 specialty and sub-specialty programs within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. These programs run from 2-7 years, leading to full certification of the physician from either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
**Responsibilities**:
The Manager, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) provides leadership and direction through the planning, development and operation of the resources to support School's 54 postgraduate clinical programs, including program expansion, RCPSC and CFPC program accreditation standards, resident scheduling/planning, training, program evaluation, funds management, external relations, and learner support. The role will develop and implement tactics that are aligned with strategic goals and objectives that have been set in collaboration with the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education and the Director, Medical Education. The Manager develops relationships and outreach strategies to generate tuition revenue and sponsorship opportunities, particularly focused on international trainees.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- 4 year Undergraduate University Degree with focus on Health Administration, Business Administration, or relevant field
**Experience**:
- 5 years' experience with accountability for the delivery of academic services to a diverse group of stakeholders
- Experience managing staff and projects and with implementation and operationalization of strategic plans
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Postgraduate Medical Education Programs and detailed understanding of trainee program accreditation requirements and review processes
- Familiarity working with and understanding of Ministry of Health operations, medical organizations and teaching hospitals
- Knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
- Knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and resources
- Knowledge of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Ability to take initiative and work both independently or collaboratively with academic personnel and administrative staff, physicians, governing and licensing bodies
- Ability to support strategic planning and implementation
- Ability to manage multiple activities from conception to completion within prescribed timelines
- Ability to interpret financial information and act accordingly
- Well-developed presentation, group facilitation, and public speaking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
- Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and a variety of custom software supporting PGME programs
- Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
- Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and travel on occasion
- Sensitivity to cross-cultural differences and norms
