**Job Summary**
The purchaser is responsible for the management of stocking, non-commodity hardware and building products and non-stocking special order items as required by the sales team.
**Duties and responsibilities**
- Create and process purchase orders.
- Source stocking and special order items as required.
- Maintain operational levels of stock inventory.
- Manage product pricing based on market intelligence.
- Establish and maintain good supplier relationships
- Create and maintain supplier data base.
- Work with suppliers to keep stock programs current including returns, buy-backs and creating merchandising plans.
- Review bookings and rebate programs from vendors and making purchasing related recommendations.
**Accountabilities**
- Ensuring inventory items have up to date costs and pricing set
- Maintaining co-operative communications with sales team
- Maintaining quality of internal controls with respect to the purchasing cycle (price negotiation, issue PO, receiving physical goods, resolving quantity and/or price discrepancies)
**Qualifications**
- Purchasing experience in the building supplies or similar industry
- The ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Effective communicator, written and verbal
- Detail oriented
- Product knowledge of building supplies is an asset
