The Purchaser works as part of the Equipment and Yard team, on site at the New Westminster office. They assist the Senior Buyer in identifying current issues relative to purchase order processing, the prioritization of issues and the development of strategic solutions to improve delivery of service. The person in this position is to uphold and support all company safety initiatives and policies as well as build confidence with other yard personnel by working with them to improve the overall day to day operations, and to support initiatives to find solutions for potential supply chain challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for entry of all FRPD purchase orders and establishing consistent methods to transfer P.O. details to the various suppliers.
- Assist the Senior Buyer in identifying current issues relative to purchase order processing, the prioritization of issues and the development of strategic solutions to improve delivery of service.
- Develop strong working relationships with project managers, superintendents and E&Y personnel to resolve issues, identify areas of concern and initiate appropriate action as required
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers to resolve shipping problems, and invoicing and receiving discrepancies.
- Works with warehouse staff to maintain adequate inventory levels for yard and project requirements
- Assisting the Senior Buyer with the development of a quality measurement system for FRPD’s supplier network and helping undertake audits of the system on an as-needed basis.
- Assists Accounts Payable to ensure that all purchase orders are properly reconciled with invoices to ensure proper invoice processing
- Maintain and update dredging vessel’s ordering and receiving of goods
- Manage rental reporting for insurance purposes to maintain insurance coverage for rental equipment
- Support E&Y team with implementing and maintaining safety and environmental initiatives
- Other tasks that may be assigned by the Senior Buyer

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
- 5-7 years’ experience working as a purchaser
- Understanding of accounting principles
- Level 2 OFA first aid attendant in the New Westminster Yard (or willing to obtain)
- Purchasing designation (SCMP or CPSM) preferred; working towards designation may be considered

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
- An attention to detail
- The ability to analyze technical data in suppliers’ proposals
- Strong communication, negotiation and mathematical skills
- Knowledge of supply-chain management, and the ability to perform financial analyses
- Strong Computer skills

Working Conditions
- Based on-site at the head office in New Westminster, the Equipment & Yard office is in a busy and productive maintenance yard.
