**Communications Specialist: Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter**

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Weeks 1-4)

**Role Overview**:
The ASL Interpreter will support individuals in the LSO Day Program by facilitating communication and promoting inclusion through American Sign Language. This role requires a strong understanding of RHA policies and procedures, professional conduct, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

**General Duties**:

- Adhere to all Robin Hood Association (RHA) policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Maintain professional conduct, punctuality, and appearance.
- Promote and maintain safe environments by identifying and reporting hazards.
- Remain alert and responsive throughout shifts (unless assigned to a sleep shift).
- Be physically capable of meeting the demands of the role.
- Be flexible to work in other program areas during staffing shortages or emergencies.

**Program-Specific Duties**:

- Implement individual service plans to support development, behavior management, and personal care.
- Provide direct care and communicate any schedule changes to your supervisor.
- Support individuals in personal goal setting, life planning, and community inclusion.
- Encourage participation in employment, recreation, and social activities.
- Monitor environments for safety and inclusion; escalate complex issues as needed.
- Support individuals during sleep shifts, including medication, toileting, and behavioral needs.
- Assist with transportation and community access, including training and support.
- Model appropriate social behavior and encourage community connections.
- Support life skills and academic development, especially for children.
- Assist with home living skills and care of the living environment.
- Provide care for high-needs or medically fragile individuals.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Communicate professionally with individuals, families, staff, and community partners.
- Follow recommendations from supervisors and professionals.
- Respect individual rights and responsibilities.
- Support nutrition and dietary plans.
- Assist with orientation for new individuals and families.
- Identify and report concerns; seek support when needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and skill development.
- Use effective communication techniques, including non-verbal cues and active listening.
- Support relief staff, volunteers, and practicum students.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to evaluations.
- Recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or program managers.

**Qualifications & Education**:

- Valid ASL certification required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience.
- Foundations in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies.
- Completion of all mandatory and designated training.
- Strong coaching and mentoring abilities.
- Effective communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and in challenging environments.
- Positive attitude, mature work ethic, and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

**Preferred Skills**:

- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Receptive to feedback and collaboration.
- Strong computer and documentation skills.
