**Health and Safety Coordinator - Part-time position**

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator (part-time) to join our team at HOPA Ports.

This is a part-time, (3 days/week) position responsible for the development and implementation of strategies, processes and programs to promote HOPA’s culture of Health and Safety.

**WHAT YOU’LL DO**

Under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security, oversee processes that promote the workplace health and safety of HOPA Ports’ employees.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Foster a Health and Safety Culture**:

- Foster a culture of safety awareness by engaging with employees at all levels.
- Act as a resource and support for employees on health and safety matters.
- Recommend and implement new tools, technologies, and processes to improve safety performance.

**Policy Development and Implementation**
- Regularly review and update health and safety programs and policies to align with current industry standards and regulations.

**Risk Assessment and Management**
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with programs, policies & procedures; annual H&S program review; review/audit of H&S systems, processes & software.
- Act as an expert resource for Joint Health and Safety Committee.

**Training and Education**
- In conjunction with department managers/supervisors, develop and implement workplace safety protocols/programs such as safety manuals, onsite safety inspection criteria, and safety/emergency drills.
- Organize and deliver training sessions on health and safety topics using various methods.
- Design and distribute educational materials and resources for employees to promote a culture and health and safety.

**Incident Investigation**
- In conjunction with department managers/supervisors, Human Resources and the Joint Health and Safety Committee, assist in the investigation of workplace incidents/accidents; assist in determining root cause and identifying effective remedial action; ensure remedial action is in place and effective; incorporate internal and external incident report findings to improve program.
- Manage communication with WSIB and other relevant agencies.

**Compliance and Reporting**
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and standards.
- Stay abreast of current and pending relevant federal legislation, codes, standards and guidelines (i.e. Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, etc.)
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory bodies.
- Chair the Joint H&S Committee, including scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes and creating agenda.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIRED**
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in relevant field
- Post-secondary training relevant to Occupational Health and Safety
- Nice to have: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Occupational Health & Safety Management certification
- Effective communication, both verbal and written
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite of products
- Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license is required

**IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL TRAINING IS CONSIDERED AN ASSET**
- Minimum 3-5 years in a similar role
- Industrial, Construction, or Manufacturing Health and Safety experience an asset
- Proven track record of managing health and safety programs
- Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing safety measures
- Experience in conducting investigations, generating reports, safety metrics and statistics

**SALARY RANGE**

Starting salary of $40,000-$45,000; commensurate with experience. This is a permanent, part time (3 days/week) role.
