K-12 Experiential Learning and Outdoor Education Consultant

Permanent Full-Time (1.00 FTE)

Located at the Catholic Education Centre

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board, a community recognized for innovation and a great northern lifestyle is centrally located in Northeastern Ontario, and is composed of a rich mix of urban, suburban, rural and wilderness environments.

This position is available immediately and will receive a responsibility allowance as per the appropriate Collective Agreement. The successful incumbent will become a permanent employee with Sudbury Catholic Schools and a member of the OECTA bargaining unit.

Description:
Under the direction of the Superintendent of School Effectiveness, the K-12 Experiential Learning and Outdoor Education Consultant will:
Provide board-level leadership, direction and support to inspire and enable the design and delivery of effective experiential learning and outdoor education opportunities for students.

Lead and coordinate training opportunities and information sessions for educators and parents with industry/community partners, with a focus on students in grades 7-12, STEM and the technology, skilled trades and apprenticeship pathways.

Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a strategic plan to expand the use of experiential learning and Outdoor Education for students.

Work with the board leadership team to allocate and distribute funds in ways that ensure long-term sustainability and the highest return on investment, and report on expenditures and progress towards the achievement of board and Ministry experiential learning goals.

Help to identify stakeholder needs (i.e., educators, parents/guardians, students, schools, community members).

Provide guidance, advice and support to educators, school leadership, community members and organizations as they design, deliver and evaluate experiential learning opportunities with/for learners in our schools, community and the Outdoor Education Centre.

Design and deliver effective professional learning for various audiences.

Create resources for specific audiences and purposes.

Share challenges, solutions, strategies and best/promising practices throughout the board and across the province.

Identify and address barriers (e.g., systemic, individual, cultural) to the delivery of experiential learning and outdoor education to ensure full participation and engagement.

Liaise and collaborate with school and board staff, local and regional partners, and Ministry staff to deepen and broaden the implementation of schools’ education and career/life planning programs.

Collect, maintain and analyze data to support system and school improvement planning.

Report on expenditures and progress towards the achievement of goals.

Engage parents with information sessions, job fairs, targeted communications, pathways planning opportunities and connections with community partners.

Make contributions to the Leaders’ Experiential Learning eCommunity.

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/designate.

Qualification:
Must possess qualifications in three (3) of the four (4) divisions

Experience in Co-operative Education, Outdoor Education and Guidance would be considered an asset.

Additional qualifications in Special Education, Co-operative Education or Guidance would be considered an asset.

Other Requirements:
Must have solid experience and expertise in the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment.

Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication and organizational skills.

Must possess exceptional writing skills.

Highly effective computer skills.

A passion for hands-on, experiential learning, technology, skilled trades and apprenticeships will be considered an asset.

Have expertise in equity and inclusion, strategic planning, partnership development, and project management.

Flexibility and adaptability.

Experience working with community partners will also be an asset.

Conditions of employment include: the completion of a police record check, Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to the Board that is completed within 6 months prior to employment, as well as the Certificate of completion for the Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps training (details will be provided following any offer of employment).
