**GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE**:
**TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Perform daily tasks associated with the safe and efficient operation of the ice surface at the Westhills arena.
- Maintain and monitor indoor and outdoor (seasonal) ice surfaces by completing daily inspections and ensuring that daily repairs to the ice surface are actioned in a timely manner.
- Perform preventative maintenance functions of the refrigeration plant and HVAC equipment.
- Completing daily equipment checks / equipment readings (and log them accordingly).
- Complete daily flooding, cleaning, and resurfacing of the ice surface(s) using a Zamboni, ice edger, and other relevant equipment.
- Perform periodic ice making/maintenance duties such as manual flooding with a cart, painting the ice surface, and removing snow and ice (as required).
- Perform general maintenance and custodial duties. Regular janitorial duties of the arena include, but are not limited to, sweeping and washing floors, washroom and change room cleaning and disinfecting, power washing, garbage pick-up and other general cleaning duties.
- Complete general maintenance/repair duties across the facility, as assigned. This can include painting, replacing light bulbs, minor carpentry repairs, equipment repair, etc.
- Remove snow from sports complex sidewalks and emergency exits (as required).
- Monitor the ice facility during rental functions and events to ensure that the facility is operating in a safe manner and that public safety is preserved.
- Open and close the facility/complex by completing a comprehensive opening/closing checklist.
- Organize equipment set up and take down. Set up rooms for events (when needed).
- Coordinate dressing room assignments.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisor.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Knowledge of refrigeration principles and refrigerator plant maintenance.
- Available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays (to support the needs of the business).
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable safety legislation pertaining to the safe operation of an ice facility..
- Criminal Record Check.
- Previous experience working in an ice facility is an asset.
- Previous experience operating a Zamboni is an asset.
- Completion of Ice Facility Operator / Refrigerator Safety Awareness courses (or equivalent) or a willingness to obtain.
- **RO (Refrigeration Operator) certification (or equivalent) preferred.**
