YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.
The Inclusion & Volunteer Supervisor is directly involved in the daily cabin programming for our Inclusions program; they are responsible for overseeing the care and well-being of campers and volunteers that are working with a 1:1 staff member. The Inclusions & Volunteer Supervisor is responsible for properly preparing each staff person who will be working with a 1:1 participant prior to their arrival. They are also the main contact between camp and those camper and participant families. They will work with 1:1 staff and participants on a daily basis to provide coaching, support, and quality programming, and strive to continue finding resources, modifying activities, being an advocate for children and adults with additional needs, and assisting in creating an inclusive camp environment.
They will also oversee the placement and supervision of volunteers that do not require 1:1 support and ensure that their experience is fulfilling and tailored to their areas of interest.
**In this role, you will**:
- Overseeing the care and well-being of campers that are working with a 1:1 staff member
- Properly prepare each staff person who will be working with a 1:1 participant prior to their arrival
- Welcome volunteers with special needs and supporting them throughout their stay
- Coordinating the successful placement and inclusion of volunteers throughout various areas of camp
- Supervisory duties include providing leadership to camp staff team by training, coaching, motivating, monitoring performance and providing mid and end of summer performance appraisals to ensure staff are meeting the expectations of their role and achieving camp objectives
- Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers and community partners
- Perform other duties as assigned
**You bring**:
- G Class driver’s license preferred
- Current NLS, by first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract
- Previous experience in a related environment, with a minimum of 1-year experience working in a program with a focus on children and adults that require additional support
- High school diploma or post-secondary education preferred (Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker, Ontario Certified Teacher, Resource Teacher, Social Worker, Developmental Support, Educational Assistant, Recreation and Leisure and/or training in the fields of psychology and experience working with children and adults with differing abilities and diagnosis)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be authorized to work full time hours (37.5 hours per week)
- Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff
- Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
