**JOB OVERVIEW**

North Island Métis Association (NIMA) is seeking a dedicated and community-oriented Food Sustainability Coordinator to support the ongoing delivery of Laarb Kawmaekit, a hands-on program focused on Métis food sovereignty, traditional food knowledge, and sustainable practices.

This role involves coordinating monthly community kitchens, organizing food skills workshops, and supporting cultural foodways education in partnership with Knowledge Keepers, guest presenters, and a registered dietitian. The Coordinator will help create accessible and engaging opportunities for community members to reconnect with traditional Métis practices and build self-reliance around food.

Working closely with the Program Manager, the Coordinator will support meaningful, culturally grounded programming that strengthens wellness through food. This is a contract position running until December 31, 2026, offering 20-28 hours per week, starting at $23/hour depending on experience.

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**

**Education, Training and Experience**
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Métis culture and traditional foodways
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team
- Experience with sustainable food practices such as gardening, harvesting, foraging, or food preservation is a strong asset
- Facilitation or presentation experience
- Food Safe certification (or willingness to obtain)

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Plan and coordinate monthly community kitchen sessions, including collaboration with the registered dietitian
- Organize and support workshops on gardening, harvesting, preserving, field dressing, and traditional plant medicines
- Build relationships with Métis Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and guest presenters to support culturally relevant content
- Coordinate event promotion, registration, and participant communication
- Collect and respond to participant feedback to improve sessions
- Track session materials, and assist with basic reporting
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Program Manager

**ADDITIONAL NOTES**
- Must provide a current Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants who are Métis, or other Indigenous
