Source Control Inspector

**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting a **Source Control Inspector** to fill a permanent full-time position. The Source Control Inspector regulates and monitors spills, wastewater, and stormwater into the wastewater collection, storm system, and environment through the Source Control program and Utility Bylaw. This role will inspect, sample, review records and monitor operations for compliance and determine infractions and respond to discharges that compromise the environment and City’s infrastructure. Comply with regulations, policies and procedures for effective and safe program operation. May perform work projects independently being responsible for results.
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Education or training in a one (1) year water/ wastewater related technical program preferred
- Unrestricted Wastewater Collection level 3 Alberta Environment Operator’s Certification or equivalent with a requirement to achieve Level 3 within 4 years
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Five (5) years in planning and operating processes of municipal infrastructure in a Level III or IV certified system or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License; Class 3 with Q endorsement is preferred.
- Must successfully pass all safety certificate courses currently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City
- Well-Developed verbal, computer, and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer aptitude including demonstrated proficiency with City based computer programs, databases, spreadsheets, and word-processing software.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to accurately use a wide range of equipment.
- Current knowledge on regulations and procedural updates.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and co-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions.
- Other hazards may be encountered through entering domestic and commercial properties. Site specific regulations may also need to be adhered to if requested by the property owner/ developer.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, property and business owners/ officers, and their representatives.
- Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Access awkward locations involving walking, climbing, bending and or twisting while carrying moderately heavy equipment, sometimes with unstable footings and work in heavy traffic areas and confined spaces.
- Ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot and disagreeable.
- Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specialized equipment including respirators and air quality monitors. Work may require use of harnesses and hoisting equipment.
- Ability to exert high physical effort in routine activities. Good eyesight and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of a municipal government operating environment including the Approval to Operate.

$35.68 to $40.55 per hour
**Hours of Work**:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; after hours on-call rotation is a requirement; potential for some overtime.
