**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Energy Specialist functions as part of the Island Health Authority (VIHA), EEC Team. The EEC team is responsible for minimizing utility consumption, implementing energy conservation initiatives, greenhouse gas emissions reporting, climate change resilience and leading sustainability transformation within Island Health. The Energy Specialist will work with the Energy Managers, to deliver targeted initiatives and programs to Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FMO) staff, Capital Design and Construction as well as other departments to achieve an enhanced, coordinated approach to achieving the team s priorities and objectives. The Energy Specialist will provide expertise on the gas supply side in terms of rate, budgeting and projecting energy costs. In addition, the Energy Specialist will explore opportunities for alternative energy, providing expertise for these options and champion sustainability issues related to climate change.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education and training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as Sustainable Energy Management; Clean Energy; Building Energy and Resource Management; Sustainability and Planning plus 5 year's recent related experience in energy management in a large complex organization.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems including broad knowledge of Building Automation Systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with energy efficient technology related to lighting systems, HVAC systems, cooling plant equipment, heating plant equipment and control systems.
- Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and experience with capital and energy projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in project management, contract management, budget development, business case development, financial controls and analysis.
- Thorough understanding of available resources for projects and applicable stakeholder groups.
- Exceptional ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to ensure information is communicated appropriately.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the Team other key Island Health departments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate and gain consensus with various stakeholders and teams.
