**Heavy Duty Technician**

**Heavy Equipment Technician**:Primary Responsibilities:
**Parts Installation**:
- Installation of various equipment related parts including:
○ Hydraulic (motors, valves, pumps, PTO’s, hoses, etc.)
○ Electrical (batteries, switches, wireless radio electronics, lighting, etc.)
○ Pneumatics (airlines, solenoids, brake valves, etc.)
○ Lift axles and related air valves for axle operation and brake operation
○ Engines (install CAT engines with all related engine parts such as PDM, DEF tanks and electronics, etc.)
○ Drilling holes in truck frames to install truck components
**Equipment Testing**
- Hard testing assembled equipment to test for any leaks, issues
- Testing equipment to calibrate belts, pressures, electronic parameters, etc.
**Continuance Improvement and Teamwork**
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure business goals are met.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area (6S Principles)
**Heavy Equipment Technician**: Technical Skills Requirements
**Mechanical & Hydraulic Skills**:
- Ability to install and troubleshoot **pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, and hoses**
- Understanding of **hydraulic schematics and flow diagrams**
- Experience with bolt-together **steel assemblies, torque specs, and fastener types**
- Use of **hand/power tools** (wrenches, impact guns, hydraulic tools)
**Electrical & Control Systems**
- Wiring and connecting sensors, solenoids, relays, and control panels
- Understanding 12V/24V systems (common in mobile equipment)
- Ability to use a multimeter for continuity, voltage, and resistance checks
- Knowledge of circuit diagrams for hydraulic-electrical systems
**Computer & Software Updates**
- Basic computer literacy:
- Updating firmware/software on mobile equipment (e.g., ECM updates)
- Using diagnostic tools (e.g., CANbus readers, OEM software)
**Testing & Quality Control**
- System Testing:
- Conducting pressure tests, leak checks, and functional tests
- Verifying hydraulic flow rates, electrical signals, and mechanical alignment
- Attention to Detail:
- Inspecting for proper torque, secure connections, and correct wiring
- Documenting test results and reporting defects
**Heavy Equipment Technician**:Personal Characteristics Requirements
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in a similar industry, specifically regarding manufacturing
- Have strong **problem-solving skills** and will be able to think quickly when making decisions or diagnosing issues
- Demonstrate focus and attention to detail when assembling, testing, and commissioning equipment
- Have a natural ability to work with **tools, hydraulic, and heavy equipment**
- Be patient & persistent, demonstrating a willingness to **re-test and refine** until systems work flawlessly
- Have the **physical stamina & strength** to **lift heavy components (50+ lbs), crouch, and work in moderately tight spaces**
- Be comfortable working in **noisy and greasy** environments
- Clearly communicate with **supervisors and team members**
- Be **punctual, reliable, and self-motivated**
- Take ownership of **installations, repairs, and final testing**, understanding the importance of **attention to detail**
Characteristics Required:
- A self-starter, able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Be reliable, responsible, diligent, energetic, and enthusiastic.
- Be a team player and respectful.
- Be organized, presentable, pay attention to detail, and punctual.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing, able to converse with the business executive team and workshop operatives in clear, practical, and unambiguous language.
- Be flexible as we work through the growth we are currently experiencing and to be a key contributor to achieving our future growth plans.
