Maintenance Technician

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician position is responsible to ensure that all production equipment is maintained in proper working condition to support manufacturing needs and decrease production downtime.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure that the Safety priority is maintained, and all work is done with the utmost in safety consciousness
- Responsible for troubleshooting and providing immediate preventive and or corrective maintenance support to production and processing teams
- Establish manage and perform preventative maintenance activities as per facility schedules
- Repair, troubleshooting and installation of machinery including mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment control systems and automation
- Identify and report safety hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, MSDS, and GMP policy requirements
- Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality
- Perform seasonal maintenance required on the property (ie. snow removal, property maintenance, etc.) to ensure the safety, integrity and appearance of the facility is maintained.
- Inspect the property on a regular basis and make recommendations for repairs and upgrades as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports.
- Engages in a Continuous Improvement (CI) mindset and encourages the “best current practice approach” to Operational Support. Is an active participant in CI initiatives through Technical Support/Training of staff
- Troubleshoot, repair and install electrical and mechanical equipment with a knowledge of high & low voltages wiring, VFD’s, Servo Drives, AC/DC motors and PLC’s
- Performs all repairs and carry out preventative maintenance inspections, follows preventative maintenance schedule to sustain optimal performance of equipment and minimize downtime
- Acts a liaison for contractors conducting repairs or otherwise working in the plant or property
- Work with outside contractors and Inspectors
- Required skills and aptitudes include and are not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, vacuum, minor fabricating/modification, heat process, and refrigeration/cooling processes
- Accountable for maintenance spare parts inventory and ensuring critical spare parts are available as needed

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a food or pharmaceutical environment considered an asset
- Post-secondary education in a Maintenance related field preferred
- Excellent understanding and commitment to Health and Safety, Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Environmental Standards
- Excellent English language ability both written and verbal
- Excellent decision-making qualities, ability to prioritise and work under pressure
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings
- Competency with the use of a computer and the Microsoft suite office software
- Familiarity with steam boilers and HVAC would be an asset
- Familiarity with food production and processing equipment
- Experience with CMMS would be an asset
- Ability to workdays and weekends - to meet the needs for the business
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
- Hazards associated with conducting work outdoors
- Use of required personal protective equipment
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:
- Lifting, moving, or manipulating objects up to 50 lbs
- Operation and use of necessary tools, machinery, or equipment
- Exposure to conditions including heat, humidity, and dust
**Please note Galaxie is located in Puslinch, a rural area right outside of Hamilton.**
