Reporting to the Director Maintenance, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing maintenance support and troubleshooting to ensure all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, irrigation systems, equipment and environmental controls are in good working condition to support a fully functioning greenhouse and groundskeeping.
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform maintenance procedures according to the established SOPs and in conjunction with the grow and production schedule, coordinating parts and service, as required.
- Coordinate routine maintenance with Grow and Operations to ensure that, whenever possible, maintenance work scheduling does not disrupt production scheduling needs.
- Assist in building a preventative maintenance program while maintaining a proactive approach to facility and equipment maintenance and repair
- Anticipate on-going maintenance needs of equipment and surroundings with a focus on safety
- Identify, recommend and implement improvements to procedures, equipment, utilities, systems and/or facilities to enhance the productivity, quality or safety of products, processes and/or procedures
- Perform operational checks on equipment and systems. Detect and investigate variance in performance of equipment, utilities, systems and/ or facilities to ensure proper or enhanced functioning
- Resolve equipment failure. Isolate issues, conduct repair or source external resource to conduct repair
- Maintain documentation for all maintenance logs and tracking as per SOPs, as well as for the continued development of internal processes as directed
- Adhere to WPCP’s standards of excellence when it comes to promoting the integrity of healthy plants, the importance of a clean workspace and adhering to health and safety regulations, Health Canada requirements, internal policies and procedures and any other legislative requirements
- Will be required to be on-call and to respond to emergency situations at any time. This may include scheduling issues, potentially covering a vacant shift, facility issues and/ or human resources requirements
- Fosters teamwork and promotes morale of all employees; participates in an environment where the entire team does the same
- Support and contribute to special projects, process improvements and performs other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- **Greenhouse systems experience is an asset**:
- **Mechanical background is a must**:
- **Familiar with chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, pneumatics, pumps, compressors, irrigation systems**:
- **HVAC knowledge**:
- **Electrical and plumbing knowledge**:
- **Welding / Fabrication**:
- **Troubleshooting ability**:
- **Generally handy person**:
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read drawings and schematics
- Demonstrated ability and understanding of basic math
- Ability to listen well and communicate effectively
- Ability to use initiative, independent judgment and common sense appropriately
- Ensures that safe conditions always exist within the work environment; adhere to safe work procedures
- Must remain compliant with any and all legal or Company regulations for working in the industry
- This position involves significant exposure to cannabis/plant materials, and it is therefore not likely suitable for an employee that may suffer from allergies to cannabis/plant pollen material, or experience other medical issues, such as asthma and hay fever, as a result of cannabis/plant material exposure
- Must be minimum of 19 years of age
- Clean security and criminal background check may be required
**Physical Demands**:
- Regularly required to perform grasping, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
- Must be able to stand for 8 hours
- Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 lbs (200 lbs with assistance)
