**What is your opportunity?**
As Director, Regulatory Relations, you will maintain an effective regulatory relations and compliance program for regulatory engagements including regulatory requests, exams, inquiries, enforcement actions, meetings and ad hoc engagements (“Regulatory Engagements”) within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations Program. The Canada Regulatory Relations Program currently covers Regulatory Engagements between the Royal Bank of Canada and its Canadian subsidiaries and their Prudential regulator, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and their AML regulator, Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC). As a member of RBC Global Regulatory relations, this role engages regularly with members of RBC’s Global Regulatory Relations function.
You will provide proactive guidance to RBC Board Members, Executives and management in relation to regulatory matters; work to maintain healthy regulatory relationships in conformance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies across RBC; oversee team members dedicated to Regulatory Engagements; and contribute to governance and oversight of a consistent issues management strategy across RBC, including the development of thematic observations, conclusions and recommendations to the Enterprise Compliance department.
**What will you do?**
**Regulatory Engagements**
- Responsible for tracking of all Regulatory Engagements with Canadian Regulators within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations program and ensuring that these are accurately reflected in reporting. In addition, this role will identify issues of concern in regulatory relationships and escalate these to the Head of Canada Regulatory Relations.
- Provide advice and guidance on exam management to areas under regulatory review and assist with Board and Senior Management preparation for regulator meetings and coordination of Supervisory Colleges and responses to Annual Supervisory Letters.
- Acts as Officer in Charge (OIC) to the Canada Head of Regulatory Relations during their absences from the office.
- Oversee the work of the Associate Director, Regulatory Relations in:
- Streamlining and actively maintaining the receipt of written inquiries and exam requests through a centralized mailbox and in maintaining effective records of all Regulatory Engagements within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations program.
- Reviewing books and records pertaining to regulatory inquiries and exams within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations program for proper and complete recordkeeping;
- Manage risk by escalating and notifying business units of regulatory findings and/or corrective actions required, within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations program, as appropriate. Assist in and monitor the enhancement of areas that have been identified with findings and/or corrective actions;
- Identify and escalate emerging issues and trends associated with regulatory inquiries and exams, and areas prioritized by regulatory bodies within the scope of the Canada Regulatory Relations program to management; and
- Manage technical enhancements and expansion of the department’s inquiry and exam recordkeeping system (GRRID).
**Internal Reporting**
- Provide detailed reporting to support the Regulatory Relations Governance Department with the internal and Board of Directors level regulatory reporting, and promote information sharing of existing and new material regulatory issues;
- Support enterprise-wide reporting programs, such as RegComp and EIM, by ensuring that the results of regulatory exams, issues, and investigations are provided to the Exam and Issue Coordinator and by ensuring information entered by Canada Regulatory Relations in GRRID is accurate and complete;
- Support the reporting and escalation to senior management and assist in summarizing and preparing reporting that communicates exam activity and issues;
- Liaise with partners in other functions and segments, to ensure consistent, insightful and clear communications to senior management; and
- Manage and track risk through a monthly metrics report detailing regulatory engagement themes and trends across Regulatory Engagements.

- Ability to effectively analyze risk to the organization of potential issues discovered
- Ability to interact with regulators and in a team setting
- Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
- Solid Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, as well as general Microsoft Office skills
- Bachelor’s Degree
**Nice-to-have**
- Additional Higher Level Degree (Preferably Law)
- Experience working at a Regulator is an asset
