Work Schedule: 5 days/week, split shift: mornings/evenings, weekends & some holidays. 4 - 6 hours/day

Housing: On property housing is available.

We are seeking a Lead Stable Hand for the Cook Ranch property, take care of the Ranch’s animals and assist with the restoration, security & maintenance of the property.

Cook Ranch is situated on 1,000 acres along the Sturgeon Valley 15 minutes north of the City of Edmonton. There are 27 horses which are primarily quarter horses, 5 thoroughbreds, 6 mini horses.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing the health care and well-being of the horses both individually and as a closed herd.
- Feeding, stable and paddock cleaning, watering and routine checks, following bio-security and safety protocols.
- Keep records of horses and manage the inventory of feed & supplies for budgeting purposes.
- Opportunities to be seized upon to spend time with the horses on an individual basis weather permitting.
- Operate a skid steer and/or tractor to move and place round bales, snow removal, etc.
- Complete tasks associated with the restoration and maintenance of the property, which is at varying stages of repair.
- Daily socialization/training of horses in terms of refresh in basic haltering, leading, grooming, standing for veterinary procedures and hoof care etc. (weather permitting).
- Available on call in cases of emergency.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 10+ years’ experience with horses is a must.
- Must have reliable vehicle and class 5 driver’s license.
- Experienced with skid steer operation.
- Competent in driving a truck and trailer and/or managing loading and unloading of horses.
- Specializes in horse care that includes for nutrition - diet related interventions, hoof care and trimming, treatment of injuries and coordinating with vets and owners as needed.
- Knowledge of paddock management as four new horses are being introduced onto the site prior to snowfall.
- Capable with Excel spreadsheets and/or use of barn/horse management software.
- Formal experience as a vet technician and/or trainer is preferred.
- Interest in rehabilitation and working with older horses is preferred.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6-9 months

Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 30 per week

**Experience**:

- truck and trailer driving: 1 year (preferred)
- horse care: 10 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Class 5 Licence (required)
