Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a joint venture of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London. Leadership and staff are committed to providing a comprehensive range of routine and specialized testing and clinical consultation to patients within London and Southwestern Ontario. Clients from across Canada and internationally refer testing to our facilities. Collaboration with numerous research partners in London demonstrates our commitment to assisting in the advance of healthcare innovation for the future. Our laboratory teams are focused on providing quality driven patient care as well as offering educational training and continuing education for a broad range of health care professions.
Transfusion Medicine provides an essential 24/7 service for Transfusion Medicine, Stem Cell Transplantation, and Tissue Banking for London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph?s Health Care London (St. Joseph's). Additionally, Transfusion Medicine serves as a national reference laboratory aiding facilities with serologically complicated cases.
Transfusion Medicine is committed to providing the highest possible standard of service to patients and users of the department. A key role of Transfusion Medicine is to provide accurate results of ordered transfusion medicine tests for safe and timely blood product transfusions for the patients of the community and region. This is achieved by working with members of other health care teams and health care providers within LHSC and St. Joseph's and beyond. Transfusion Medicine works consistently with Canadian Blood Services to ensure there is an adequate and appropriate inventory of the various blood products and components for patient needs.

**Job Summary**:
**What the Role is**
Reporting to the Manager, Core, Flow, Transfer Immunology and Point of Care Testing_,_ the Coordinator, Transfusion Medicine is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.
The Coordinator, Transfusion Medicine is formally partnered with the Clinical Services Lead of Transfusion Medicine, the medical leader, in a dyad-leader relationship, and is supported by a team of Senior Technologists, specialists and administrative supports. The Transfusion Medicine Laboratory provides an essential 24/7 service for Transfusion Medicine, Stem Cell Transplantation, and Tissue Banking for all city-wide hospitals. Additionally, it serves as a national reference laboratory aiding facilities with serologically complicated cases. It is part of the Laboratory Medicine Division which includes a large and diverse professional team of biochemists, hematologists, transfusion medicine, and scientists, as well as newly renovated laboratories, with modern instrumentation, including Canadian and world-first automation designs.
Note: this role may be required to be on-call on a rotational basis
