Wood's Homes is looking for one (1) full-time Indigenous Wellness Navigator to join our Community Group Care.
**Job Summary**:
The Indigenous Wellness Navigator (IWN) supports and guides staff and clients in a culturally responsive direction, embodying ‘culture as treatment’ and ‘culture as intervention’ in alignment with the Indigenous worldview. Through the four quadrants of the medicine wheel—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual—the IWN ensures a safe, connected, and supportive environment that fosters cultural engagement for Indigenous clients seeking health and wellness. This role requires exceptional dedication to high-quality service and adherence to Wood’s Homes’ Health and Safety Management System.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Cultural and Clinical Support: Facilitate culturally safe and sensitive practices, working with the clinical team to integrate cultural goals into therapeutic plans.
- Family & Community Liaison: Build resource networks, enhance family autonomy, and support cultural and community connections.
- File Maintenance and Research: Document practice-based knowledge, maintain records, and support annual reporting.
- Cultural Leadership and Community Coordination: Engage and support Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous staff to foster community connections and cultural protocol.
- Health & Safety: Conduct regular safety inspections, report hazards, and embed cultural safety in practice.
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related field, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Indigenous Cultural and Ceremonial Practice Knowledge may substitute for formal education.
- Lived experience and self-identification as Indigenous, with knowledge across various Nations, cultural rites, and permissions.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification required, with Criminal and Intervention Record Check upon hire.
**Skills & Competencies**:
- Proficiency in cultural knowledge and practices.
- Strong relationship-building skills, communication, and storytelling abilities.
- Organizational skills for documentation and electronic record-keeping.
- Capacity to bridge Indigenous and Western healing practices.
**Working Conditions**:
This role involves travel to various sites, occasional exposure to crisis situations, and work in diverse settings, including community and campus-based programs.
