Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will be part of a team providing cartographic and related support services in publishing geoscience information for the mining industry and other client groups. You will: - generate, maintain and administer digital and hard copy geological maps within a Geographic Information System (GIS) - provide advice to colleagues on technical aspects of graphics, drafting, map production and assess new graphics software, hardware and drafting techniques - participate on design teams and committees and provide input during development and modification of internal cartographic standards and publication processes **How do I qualify?**: **Technical expertise**: - You have knowledge of drafting, graphics design, esthetic and artistic layout principles. - You have knowledge of cartographic and map construction techniques, principles and practices. - You have working knowledge of graphics, publishing and presentation software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat and PowerPoint, database, word processing, spreadsheets and various graphics file formats. - You have a thorough knowledge of GIS software to construct digital geological maps, figures and related products. - You have knowledge of printing industry standards and latest products (e.g. plotters, scanners) and supplies (e.g. papers, ink systems) to ensure production of quality products. **Communication and interpersonal skills**: - You have demonstrated written communication skills to prepare and edit geological terms on posters, figures, maps and other visual products. - You have demonstrated interpersonal and oral communication skills to liaise with professional and non-technical employees in order to discuss, explain, and convey information. - You have well developed interpersonal skills to deal diplomatically and tactfully with clients and with co-workers in a team setting to resolve misunderstandings and to clarify points of view and opinions. **Research, analytical and problem-solving skills**: - You have the ability to find and evaluate various drafting techniques, and select the best solution for performing non-standard, technical tasks. - You can develop solutions or options to cartographic and GIS problems that can be integrated into the drafting process to match changing information requirements. - You have the ability to identify inconsistencies and/or deficiencies in products submitted for publication, and respond to issues and provide recommendations. **Organizational, planning and coordination skills**: - You can work on multiple tasks with potentially conflicting deadlines and cope with unexpected requests and rapidly changing priorities. - You are able to establish a work plan, identify priorities and establish deadlines. **Other essential skills**: - You have knowledge and understanding of digital topographic projections, co-ordinate systems and methods. - You have knowledge of geological and technical terms and descriptions used
