We are looking for a Sector Head to oversee the construction of a sector of our future battery materials plant in Bécancour. Are you the person we need to take on this major challenge?
YOUR MISSION
Our future Bécancour Battery Materials Plant will be a crucial link in the supply chain for next-generation battery materials with a focus on advanced and sustainable technologies. Estimated at nearly $1 billion, the project will advance to the detailed engineering phase later this year. You will be responsible for organizing and directing the construction and related activities in a designated sector of the plant. In this position, you will be the main contact for all activities at the project site and will coordinate its execution with the resident engineers assigned to the designated sector. To fulfill this role, you will need a combination of technical expertise, leadership abilities and project management skills to meet the design and specification requirements and execute the project within the specified timeframes, budget constraints and expected quality standards.
Project planning and execution
Liaise between the engineering, construction and operation teams.
Participate in the plant design by ensuring that the plant meets future construction and operation needs.
Work with different project stakeholders to develop detailed construction plans that include schedules, budgets, and resource and equipment requirements.
Track progress, identify potential delays or problems, and implement any corrective measures required to keep the project on track.
As required, contribute to or lead the administration of contracts in your sector and participate in contract and subcontract negotiations with the procurement group.
Plan and implement procedures to ensure that construction operations continually adhere to the technical designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules and budget.
Support the implementation of and adherence to established protocols and programs in occupational health and safety and the environment and promote a safe work environment.
Implement tools, analysis and decisions of the PMP when executing tasks.
Ensure that corporate policies are consistently applied.
Project control
Ensure that procurement and construction activities are compliant with the relevant industry standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
Play a key role in controlling expenses in your sector in the areas of labour, equipment, materials, and services and ensure that operations in the field are within budget limits.
Communication and coordination
Serve as the main communication contact between stakeholders in your sector, including internal teams, contractors, suppliers and regulatory bodies.
Hold regular meetings, provide progress updates and produce reports to keep stakeholders informed of the project’s progress and milestones.
Address issues, conflicts and concerns in a timely and professional way to maintain positive relationships and keep up the project’s momentum.
Risk management and problem solving
Identify potential risks, challenges and obstacles that may impact the construction project and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
Draw on your problem-solving skills and sound judgement to proactively resolve problems and conflicts as they arise.
Anticipate and plan for the unexpected to minimize disruptions and keep the project on track.
YOUR SKILLS PROFILE
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
Significant experience in project management or construction management, with a focus on industrial or commercial projects, preferably in the heavy industry, metallurgy or chemicals sectors.
PMP or other relevant certifications are a definite asset.
Solid knowledge of project and construction management processes, techniques and best practices.
Proficiency in recognized project management tools and software (e.g. Primavera, Microsoft Project).
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.
Strong leadership, project management and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and guide team members toward meeting goals.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders; advanced level of French and English.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage project resources, budgets and schedules.
A results-focused attitude, with an ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically.
