**The Opportunity**:
The Operating Room Booking Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the operating room by effectively managing surgery schedules, coordinating with medical staff and offices, and maintaining accurate records. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities to facilitate efficient patient care and optimize operating room utilization.

**Qualifications**:

- Must have a minimum of 12-months previous experience in a clerical position within the health care field.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and procedures required.
- Medical Office Administration Course preferred.
- Experience with Meditech Expanse is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of hospital and surgical programs and impacts to metric collections for Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), Surgical Efficiency Target Program (SEPT), and Wait Time Information Systems (WTIS) preferred.
- Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
- Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.

- Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Serve as the primary point of contact between the surgeon’s offices, operating room staff, and other healthcare professionals involved in the surgical process.
- Answers enquiries of a general nature for other departments, nursing staff, physicians, and their offices, and assisting them in a friendly and co-operative manner.
- Communicate with patients when indicated for instructions regarding pre-operative preparations, arrival times and other relevant information.
- Checks and confirms all patient information for accuracy to assist in maintaining an up-to-date medical record for all patients.
- Accepts and schedules elective bookings on a block booking basis for In-patient and day care surgical patients and makes the appropriate entries in the OR schedule within the Community Wide Scheduling and Surgery modules in Meditech Expanse. Bookings are inclusive of operating room surgeries, pre-operative appointments, TAPP block and epidural steroid injections, endoscopy, cardioversion and anaesthetic consultations.
- Maintain the operating room schedule, ensuring that surgeries are scheduled in a manner that maximizes efficiency and minimizes downtime.
- Communicate any changes or updates to the surgery schedule to relevant stakeholders, including surgeons, surgeon’s offices, nurses, and support staff.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as anaesthesia, radiology, respiratory and laboratory to ensure that all necessary resources and personnel are available for scheduled procedures and surgeries.
