Due to the upcoming planned retirement of our financial administration manager, the business now seeks an experienced "Controller" (CPA) to join our leadership team. This will set a new course for the financial operational management of the department. **Responsibilities** - Responsible for the accounting function for the organization. - Facilities, including cash and bank, accounts receivable, inventory, capital assets, accounts payable, inter-company transactions and other related accruals. - Responsible to prepare financials. - Responsible for department staff member. - On a regular periodic basis, prepare and review the plants forecast and communicate any changes from the period. - Proactively provide continuous improvement ideas relating to accounting processes. - Take a leadership role in the entire preparation of the annual budget for the profit centres including involving various departmental managers in the development of manpower and controllable spending budgets to encourage accountability and ownership within department performance vs. budget. Work closely with the leadership team to ensure that all of the budgeted changes, cost saving initiatives, and new or lost business awards are correctly captured in the budget. - Complete performance goals and objectives for the accounting team ensuring continuous development of staff. - Other ad-hoc duties as required. **Critical Success Factors** - Effectively be able to manage all financial requirements including inventory control, capital spending, customer profitability. - Demonstrates focus and drive to achieve targets, budgets and results through development and maintenance of operational and financial KPI's/Dashboards. - Desire to become a business leader and active participant by thoroughly understanding the business, providing accurate and timely information to the management team, taking the initiative to identify and implement costs saving projects that will assist in improving the overall profitability of the organization. - Desire and ability to learn about the business and understand the production process by attending and participating in production meetings and connecting planned labour costs to the production floor, thus developing the necessary link between the production docket with the financial statements. - Ability to identify potential risk areas and establish prudent financial stewardship and safeguarding of assets. - Oversee the education and development of departmental staff while fostering an environment based on teamwork and accountability. - Educate and train departmental managers of the financial impact of their decisions, and hold them accountable to a predetermined budget. - Clearly communicate weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial results including explanation of variances of actual compared to forecast/budget. - Effectively manage and take complete ownership and control of the accounting department with respect to month-end reporting as well as day-to-day activities. - Proven self-starter, who requires limited supervision and direction, yet achieves tasks, overcomes problems and provides effective direction and development for staff. - Adopts a proactive approach and a perpetual willingness to get personally involved in order to increase the pace and efficiency and achieve departmental, shop and company goals and objectives. - Embraces the challenge of problem solving and identifying and implementing well thought through practical solutions. **Effort/Physical Demands** - Desk work. - Constant communication with employees, peers, management, suppliers and customers. - Overtime as required. - Ability to travel outside of Canada as necessary (To USA only) **Qualifications** - CPA designation preferred. - Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting and finance experience in an accounting firm / reporting function of a multi-functional / multi-location business - Experience leading direct and indirect reports - Experience working in a small sized organization in a multi-currency environment - Proven analytical and problem-solving skills - Have an ability to understand processes and oversee them with mínimal supervisio
