Our client, a high-growth
direct-to-consumer (D2C) consumer products company
, is seeking an experienced
Controller
on a
contract basis
to strengthen financial operations with a
primary focus on inventory accounting, controls, and reporting
. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance leader with deep experience managing
inventory-heavy, Amazon-driven businesses
.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, and payroll oversight
  • Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with ASPE / GAAP

Inventory & Cost Accounting (Core Focus)

  • Own
    inventory accounting
    across Amazon FBA, 3PLs, and direct fulfillment channels
  • Manage SKU-level costing, landed costs, and bill-of-materials accuracy
  • Reconcile physical inventory to system balances and investigate variances
  • Oversee inventory valuation, reserves, write-downs, and obsolescence analysis
  • Ensure accurate COGS recognition and inventory cut-off at period-end
  • Improve inventory controls, cycle counts, and reconciliation processes

Amazon & D2C Reporting

  • Oversee Amazon Seller Central accounting, including settlements, fees, returns, and reimbursements
  • Analyze contribution margins by SKU, channel, and fulfillment method
  • Partner with supply chain, operations, and marketing on demand planning and inventory forecasting

Financial Leadership

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management in an inventory-intensive environment
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Support ERP, inventory systems, and e-commerce integrations
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors

Required Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred (CPA, CA / CPA, CMA / CPA, CGA)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior experience as a Controller or Senior Finance Manager
  • Deep hands-on experience with inventory accounting in a D2C or consumer products environment
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Inventory valuation and reserves
  • Landed cost calculations
  • COGS and margin analysis
  • Amazon FBA inventory flows
  • Advanced proficiency in
    MS Excel
  • Experience with ERP and inventory systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Cin7, A2X, or similar)
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
