This role is an exciting opportunity for you to use your communication and writing skills to promote the expansive range of programs and services that The Mustard Seed offers to support families and individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty throughout Red Deer and Central Alberta. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing an innovative communications strategy for Red Deer operations.
**Position Type**:Full time, 12-month contract

**Location**: Red Deer, AB
- Share the story of how The Mustard Seed in Red Deer is meeting the needs of those experiencing homelessness and poverty with the broader community
- Develop close connections with the team and leadership in Red Deer, our volunteers and supporters, and the people we serve to learn their stories and share the amazing things The Mustard Seed is doing
- Prepare timely communications materials and promotional items in support of programming, fundraising, and special events
- Assist with key messaging for media releases, public service announcements, media kits, etc.
- Maintain media database and public contacts for disseminating information
- Assist in the production of organizational videos as required for promotional purposes
- Research and write stories for the quarterly newsletter, monthly electronic newsletter, and other campaigns
- Support the Development team by developing communication for various events and campaigns
- Play a part in developing communication strategy and planning for Red Deer
- Some administration duties as needed to assist the communications, marketing, and brand department and with coordination of The Mustard Seed promotional site
- Assist with communications projects as needed
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- A passion to be part of ending homelessness in Alberta and British Columbia and a desire to serve those who are experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty
- Post-secondary education related to journalism, communications or in a related field
- Work experience within a public relation and/or communications department
- Self-motivated, proactive, energetic, and goal oriented with superior interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with time-sensitive deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Previous experience working in a not-for-profit organization is considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and clean driver’s abstract
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Monday to Friday with the flexibility to accommodate events and fundraisers during evenings and weekends as required
- Driver’s Abstract and Employment Security Check is required
- As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to agree and to sign our Statement of Faith
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for any employer
