- **Safety Coordinator** works closely with the Occupational Health and Safety Officer to champion a safe Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Campus.- **Position Responsibilities**
- Responsibilities of the Safety Coordinator include:
**Occupational Health and Safety Project Management**
- Provide campus-wide safety awareness through the development and delivery of education sessions to employees, through individual instruction, group presentations, tailgate discussions, etc. and ensure a high level of awareness and safety practice, in collaboration with the OH&S Officer.
- Under the direction of the Manager and in collaboration with the OH&S Officer, support adhoc and special safety project implementations and updates.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company standards and policies.
- Provide mentoring to workers and leaders in maintaining safe work habits and practices.
- Deliver support to the OH&S Officer in safety related projects.
- Create new Occupational Health and Safety processes and procedures, where applicable under direction of supervisor.
- Act as project management lead on assigned safety projects.

**Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction**
- Supporting the OH&S Officer, performs various levels of worksite inspections and audits and follows through with appropriate levels of coaching and support for all corrective actions.
- Where appropriate and within scope of authority, investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Complete incident causation analysis, develop, implement, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Assist the OH&S Officer in the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and providing probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution.
- Coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventative measures within scope of authority.
- Assist in the identification and analysis of trends. Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures.
- Support investigation documentation and data tracking efforts.
- Maintain confidentiality of incidents and outcomes.

**Occupational Health & Safety Program Coordination**
- In coordination with the OH&S Officer, support RDP’s response to incident management, workplace inspections, emergency response planning and hazard assessment oversight for client areas.
- Collect and analyze data, complete reports, and identify trends related to various aspects of the OHS Management System.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and implementation of health and safety standards, procedures, and practices to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Provide guidance to RDP community on safety matters, and escalates inquiries, where appropriate to the OH&S Officer.
- In collaboration with the OH&S Officer, coordinate the implementation of health and safety programs along with related processes, procedures and resources.
- Maintain and assist with the creation of health and safety documentation including but not limited to plans, processes, forms, logbooks, and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to mitigate any Health and Safety Concerns before an incident or service call is received.
- Participate in field inspections, job observations, health and safety audits and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to occupational health and safety legislation and identifying risks. Provides findings about risks and suggestions for improvement.
- Work with employees, supervisors, and management to identify potential hazards and collaborate to provide corrective actions to identified hazards.
- Encourage and promote a safe work culture.

**Required Qualifications**
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
- Two to three years of progressively responsible experience working in Occupational Health and Safety
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and related codes
- Ability to analyze complex information and make timely decisions using solution-based problem solving
- Ability to act as a change agent; Effective in enabling and influencing change
- Demonstrate leadership and team-building skills
- Proven planning and organizational skills to manage program delivery
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting
- Demonstrates ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
- Embrace a safety culture mindset and encourages others to do the same
