**Compensation Specialist**

Position Purpose and Summary

The People & Culture department at TWU is establishing a new Centre of Excellence for Compensation. This position will implement the design of compensation Structure, including develop a framework for structuring salaries, bonuses, benefits, and incentives based on job roles, market benchmarks, and performance. This position also creates customized compensation plans tailored to different employee groups, considering factors such as experience, skills, and contributions. It provides training programs and resources for the P&C team and managers to effectively administer compensation practices while also establishing mechanisms for regular review and evaluation of compensation programs to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

Key Areas of Accountability
- **
Salary Administration**:

- Administers the organization's salary structures, including managing salary ranges, salary adjustments, promotions, and pay increases.
- In collaboration with ELT, reviews and approves salary change requests, ensuring consistency and fairness in compensation decisions.
- ** Compensation Planning and Budgeting**:

- Assists in the development of annual compensation budgets and forecasts, including salary budgeting and merit increase planning, and bonus (e.g. stipend) allocation.
- Monitors and tracks compensation expenses against budgetary targets and provides regular reports to leaders.
- ** Performance Management Integration**:

- Collaborates with P&C Business Partners and the (future) P&C Talent Acquisition Specialist to integrate compensation practices with performance management processes, including goal setting, performance evaluation, and merit-based pay decisions.
- Ensures that compensation programs align with performance objectives and support a culture of performance excellence.
- ** Employee Communication and Training**:

- Communicates compensation policies, procedures, and changes to employees through various channels, such as employee handbooks, intranet portals, and training sessions.
- Provides training and guidance to managers and employees on compensation-related topics, such as salary negotiation, incentive plans, and pay equity.
- ** Data Analysis and Reporting**:

- Analyzes compensation data and metrics to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in compensation practices.
- Prepares reports and dashboards on key compensation metrics, such as salary ranges, pay differentials, turnover rates, and compensation cost analysis.
- ** Job Evaluation and Classification**:

- Participates in job evaluation processes to assess the relative value of different roles within the institution and ensure internal equity in job classifications and salary structures.
- Updates job descriptions, job classifications, and salary grades based on job evaluation results and organizational changes.

- Knowledge of organizational design, compensation practices and related legislation.
- Knowledge of employment and labour legislation
- Intermediate working level with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) with Advanced to Expert level understanding of Excel.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical reasoning skills
- The ability to exercise creativity in deriving solutions to complex problems

Standards & Requirements
- **
Education & Certifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Human Resources, business, or a related field of study.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), is preferred
- **
Experience**:

- Minimum five (5) years of human resources experience in compensation, classification, or job evaluation. Preference for HR experience in organizations with union and non-union employees.
