Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manger is a key player in taking ownership of the accounting full cycle and close process, reporting, as well as continuously improving systems and internal control processes.
The Accounting Manager is responsible to manage and process financial transactions to ensure accurate and on-time month, quarter, and year end closing and financial reporting, payroll management, while also assisting with the management of all financial resources related processes, ensuring these processes are aligned with the strategic direction and annual goals of the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting transactions and ensure company's financial and internal control processes are effective, and that financial records are complete and accurately prepared on a timely basis
- Manage timely month, quarter, and year-end closure
- Prepare and review journal entries for month end
- Prepare and review balance sheet accounts reconciliation and working paper
- Coordinate with AR, AP, and other team members to make sure month end closure on time
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages
- Prepare in depth monthly financial analysis actual vs budget
- Conduct meaningful and proactive analysis to improve key business decisions
- Prepare periodic sales tax filing (GST/HST PST), and other out of province and states government filings and surveys
- Assist and manage the annual budget
- Provide backup coverage for the finance and payroll as required
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- Work with external accounting firm for annual review requirements
- Assist with ERP implementation
- Develop and assist with implementation and maintain of policies and internal controls procedures
- Prepare other reports and perform tasks assigned by the company
**Qualifications**:
- CPA designation with at least 2 years post designation working experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related fields
- A minimum of 3 years full-cycle accounting experience
- Strong technical accounting skills and in-depth knowledge of ASPE
- Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
- Solid people leadership experience
- Proficiency with ERP system. ERP implementation experience is a plus
- Manufacturing accounting experience
- Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Able to meet tight deadlines and work efficiently under pressure
- Strong communication skills, including writing, speaking and active listening
- Results oriented and pragmatic approach that is continuously focused on execution and problem solving while maintaining a balance of speed and accuracy.
- Desire to question, challenge, and suggest changes from the status quo to drive operational excellence
- Ability to develop, maintain, and grow strong relationships with various levels of personnel in a respectful, professional and constructive manner
- Strong attention to detail but can also see the big picture
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
