The Student Success Advisor supports students in making informed decisions about retention, program transitions, or withdrawal. This role involves triaging student needs, providing immediate strategies, and connecting them with appropriate long-term supports. The incumbent ensures students align their academic paths with career goals, offers guidance on alternatives, and provides specialized support.
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma in Social Services, Counselling, Education, Psychology, or a related field
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience supporting adult learners in a post-secondary or related setting
- Experience in student triage, crisis response, and event planning
- Strong knowledge of student support services and referral pathways
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- In-person position, must be able to reliably commute between North Bay campuses
**Responsibilities**:
- Serve as the first point of contact for students seeking academic, personal, or mental health support.
- Conduct assessments, provide immediate strategies, and refer students to appropriate services, such as Accessibility Services, academic advising, or mental health resources
- Work closely with WSIB-sponsored students to coordinate academic accommodations, liaise with faculty, and ensure students receive necessary support to manage their educational and health needs
- Maintain communication with WSIB representatives to track student progress
- Assist students considering program changes, withdrawals, or academic modifications
- Provide personalized guidance on pathways to explore course load adjustments, career alignment, and alternative pathways to success.
- Ensure students are aware of available academic and well-being resources
- Offer study skills coaching, time management strategies, and test preparation guidance to students awaiting formal academic accommodation or mental health support
- Manage student inquiries through the general mailbox, ensuring timely, accurate, and supportive responses.
- Direct complex cases to the appropriate department while maintaining a seamless communication flow.
- Participate in college events, workshops, and promotional activities to enhance awareness of student success services and foster a campus environment that supports student well-being and academic achievement
