**THE JOB**: Health and Safety Officer**

The starting salary range falls within the minimum to mid-point of the salary range.

Starting Salary Range: $62,703 -$ 78,380

The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing occupational health and safety policies, strategies, and projects at Doctors of BC. They serve as the main point of contact for safety initiatives, co-leading the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and ensuring compliance with provincial workplace requirements. The officer manages various tasks such as updating and writing policies, coordinating meetings, overseeing safety kits, liaising with WorkSafe BC for workers' compensation claims, conducting ergonomic assessments, and collaborating with department leaders on safety initiatives. Additionally, they review policies and procedures, monitor safety programs, and recommend training for the committee members and employees.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Implement and maintain a comprehensive safety management system that includes policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with provincial regulations and industry best practices.
- Investigate and analyze workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and developing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, ensuring compliance with WorkSafe BC requirements. This includes creating and sourcing training materials, conducting training sessions, and tracking training completion.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify workplace hazards, assess risks, and develop mitigation strategies. This includes physical hazards, ergonomic concerns, and psychosocial factors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, near-misses, and safety program performance indicators. Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, communication protocols, and coordination with local emergency services. Conduct drills and exercises to test and improve emergency preparedness.
- Actively promote a positive safety culture within the organization, encouraging employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives. This includes organizing safety campaigns, recognition programs, and communication channels for safety-related concerns.
- Keep abreast of provincial health and safety legislation and regulations changes, ensuring compliance and updating policies and procedures as necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to conduct regular safety audits and inspections, identifying areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Represent the organization in external forums and committees related to occupational health and safety, establishing relationships with industry peers and regulatory bodies.
- As the Co-Chair of the OHSC, take the initiative in creating and distributing meeting agendas, conducting committee evaluations, keeping track of action items, documenting meeting minutes, and distributing them for committee approval.
- Provide support to the Infrastructure team by serving as one of the Occupational First Aid Level 2 attendants, which may include weekend meeting coverage.
- Take responsibility for managing the inventory of the First Aid room and advise the Infrastructure manager on annual budgeting and forecasting.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments for employees and conduct research, source, and order ergonomic equipment and supplies.
- Foster collaboration with department leaders and support team members to strategically implement safety initiatives.
