Communications Officer - Photography & Digital Media

Position Overview:
The Communications Officer is an integral part of the Advancement & Communications team. Under the supervision of the Manager, Communications, this role is responsible for an assigned portfolio supporting the College’s mission. This role works collaboratively with all College community members to ensure content is generated professionally and accurately and reflects the College’s priorities and brand.

General Responsibilities
- Contributes to developing, creating and executing the College’s various communications and marketing materials. This includes but is not limited to the HSC Review, Annual Reports, Admissions brochures, Advancement materials, course booklets, handbooks, newsletters, display materials and academic materials as required.
- Supports the College’s various stakeholder groups by providing creative input in creating promotional advertisements (print, digital, social), event invitations, and reports.
- Works closely and collaboratively with the Manager, Communications and other College departments (as needed) to generate ideas and strategies for written and visual presentation of materials.
- Stays up-to-date on College programs and events such as chapel, athletic and co-curricular awards, school plays, etc., and assists with creating pertinent materials.
- Supports Advancement and Communications colleagues with their respective portfolios when required.

Portfolio Responsibilities (Photography & Digital Media):
The Photography & Digital Media portfolio is responsible for photography, videography, graphic design and the HSC website for various multimedia channels and digital publications supporting the College’s mission.

Photography:

- Coordinates with all four schools (Montessori, Junior, Middle & Senior) and the Advancement and Communications department to identify specific photography needs.
- As the official College photographer for all school events, attends or arranges for coverage of all College events.
- Where appropriate, oversees the work of contract photographers and coordinates the School’s photography schedule to ensure key on and off-campus events are captured throughout the school year.
- Formats and uploads appropriate photo galleries to the online Zenfolio website for the college community.
- Provides technical support for the sale of photographs (Zenfolio) to students and their families and ensures the photographs are successfully delivered to all clients.
- Edits photos where necessary: i.e. adding people into existing photos, creating poster designs for school musicals.
- Captures photos and videos for use on social media within a tight turnaround time.

Videography, Website & Graphic Design:

- Coordinates video shoot schedules, including the supervision of outsourced videos.
- Shooting and editing videos for the College.
- Cutting and editing micro-segments to use for social media platforms.
- Ensures all videos have closed-captioning.
- Maintains brand consistency and AODA compliance.
- Develops digital adaptations of print publications for posting online.
- Maintains resource boards and groups on the College intranet (myHSC).
- Works closely with the Admissions team to support website updates for the College.
- Assists with creating forms, templates, logos, ads, business cards, brochures, displays, signage, and other materials for web production.
- Coordinates logistics relating to print requirements, posters, banners, and other materials to increase the College’s profile and promote College activities.

Other:

- Scanning archival materials, as needed, to convert to digital format.
- Supports Communications team with social media; capturing photos, creating content, scheduling and posting
- Supports Advancement team at College events
- This role requires some evening and weekend work

Qualifications:

- Three-year Diploma or Degree in Digital Media, Social Media, Digital Photography and Videography, Interactive Media, Marketing, Broadcasting or relevant field.
