**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Workplace Health and Safety, and is responsible for investigating and processing a wide range of disability benefit entitlements including WCB, sick leave, short
- and long-term disability and salary continuance resulting from work and non-work-related illness or accident. The incumbent will serve as the initial contact with internal and external stakeholders. All work and non-work place disability benefits will be administered in accordance with Covenant care and Covenant Living guidelines, benefit contracts, and applicable legislation.
**Primary Role and Responsibility**:
**1. Communication/Benefit Inquiries**:
i. Responds to plan members’ requests for benefit information & forms
ii. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with employees, OH&S, Covenant care and covenant living, Payroll and Management as well as insurers in regards to status of claims
iii. Participates in team meetings to ensure consistency in disability and SUB Plan administration
iv. Determines appropriate methods of communicating to internal and external stakeholders
v. Maintains regular communication with Ability Management Advisor and consultants
vi. Composes and sends appropriate correspondence to employees, managers and insurers
**2. Reporting Duties**:
**Initiates and plans ability/disability case management by**:
i. Records all pertinent information regarding employee’s non-work-related illness and or accidents in the OH&S data base
ii. Reports rehabilitation earnings to the insurance provider to ensure the plan member is accurately compensated during their gradual return to work. Potential reconciliation of incorrect pay and time coding
iii. Use COGNOS to track and investigate employees on a leave of absence with pay
iv. Run impromptu reports on employee sick accruals and employee information for the OH&N’s and Ability Management consultants
v. Review tracking report of outstanding plan member claims to avoid employees being disqualified from benefit entitlements and to avoid an interruption in income replacement while employees are on leave
vi. Run reports in Access to identify employee’s approaching their change in definition or age 65 limitation
vii. Prepare UNA leave listing from impromptu
viii. Run WCB listings from impromptu
ix. Run reports in Access and Impromptu for the OH&S and HR quarterly meetings
x. Run impromptu reports to verify age and claiming limitations have been captured in the payroll system (LTD/CIB Vol life ins). Potential reconciliation of employee premiums
**4. Disability Claim Administration**:
i. Coordinates disability claims with external and internal providers
ii. Opening and closing SUB Plan, STD/LTD, WCB and Salary continuance files
iii. Calculating sick credit end dates and providing Sun Life with the information
iv. Issuing 30-month or age 65 letters to employees when applicable
v. Sending notices to payroll and the employee for WCB, STD, LTD, RTW, and terminated files
vi. Maintain salary and benefit information for STD/LTD and WCB
vii. Problem solving of errors in regards to inaccurate payments and Return to Work Plans
ix. Liaison between Ability Advisors, Payroll and Corporate Benefits
x. Monitors STD/LTD claims with WCB implications
xi. Ensures that communication of waiver of premium to Payroll and employees are provided in a timely manner
