Resource Consultant/early Childhood Specialist

The RC-Early Childhood Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support, as part of a transdisciplinary team, to children (ages 0-6) and their families seeking integrated care for mental health and developmental needs. Alongside delivering direct skill-building interventions, this role equally emphasizes service navigation—empowering families to access additional resources, assessments, and community services. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team, including psychotherapists, to create a cohesive and impactful circle of care.
**KEY
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Transdisciplinary Team Collaboration**:
- Alongside the psychotherapist, collaborate to engage families and determine needs and co-create a service plan.
- Execute the interventions on the service plan with respect to coaching, modelling, skill development, and practice.
- Collaborate with all disciplines to address families' mental health socio-cultural, developmental, and emotional needs, ensuring comprehensive support.
- Participate in regular interdisciplinary case reviews to co-develop and adapt family service plans.
- Facilitate coordinated care by working closely with educators, therapists, and other team members to ensure alignment in service delivery.
**Service Navigation**:
- Assist families in navigating the system of services available for their child, including referrals for specialized assessments (e.g., developmental, psychological) and additional supports.
- Build strong knowledge of community resources and guide families in accessing funding, therapeutic services, and education supports.
- Act as a liaison between families and external service providers, ensuring seamless integration of care.
**Skill Building and Intervention**:
- Deliver direct skill-building interventions for children aimed at addressing developmental goals.
- Coach parents in implementing strategies that support their child’s development at home and in daily routines.
- Strengthen parental confidence, problem-solving, and advocacy skills through ongoing support and practical guidance.
**Community Engagement and Capacity Building**:
- Engage with community partners to facilitate coordinated service access and share knowledge of available supports.
- Facilitate workshops or group sessions for parents in the program on topics related to child development and system navigation as well as with community partners.
**Documentation and Compliance**:
- Maintain accurate records of interactions with families and service providers while ensuring strict confidentiality.
- Log service activity and adhere to program and reporting guidelines.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A minimum education of an Early Childhood Education diploma combined with graduation from Resource Teacher Certificate Program or equivalency with 5 years of relevant experience
- Relevant experience in providing consultative support to children with extra support needs in early childhood settings; working with childcare centre staff, families, school staff, community resource staff
- A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (Registered Early Childhood Educator)
- Able to work flex hours, including some evenings
- A valid Ontario’s drivers’ license and access to a personal vehicle is preferred
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
- Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, clinical judgement, problem-solving skills; ability to consult and work collaboratively with clients and stakeholders.
- Knowledgeable about Canada's Early Learning and Child Care Framework, Attachment Theory, and the Developmental Systems Approach
- Ability to identify, plan and implement intervention strategies for children with extra support needs including ASD, ADHD, social/emotional trauma, academic, developmental, speech and language concerns within a family systems and socio-cultural lens with sensitivity to the social determinants of health
