Job Summary
The Program Advisor, Workplace Learning is responsible for designing, managing, and implementing advanced programs that provide opportunities to learn through campus work experiences. This includes leading a variety of campus-wide programs including Work Learn Programs (4,000+ annual student placements), NSERC USRA, Undergraduate Research Awards (500+ full-time student placements), and other new experiential learning programs that provide workplace experiences for students. The role involves strategic planning and leadership of the programs' annual cycles, comprehensive communication to the campus community, designing and leading orientation events for students and employers, creating and leading the assessment and evaluation processes for workplace learning experiences, overseeing substantial budgets ($10M annually), and drafting and defending projections for future program budgets to senior leadership.

Organizational Status
The Program Advisor, Workplace Learning, is a key member of the UBC Career Centre staff team. The UBC Career Centre is a central hub that facilitates and enhances student learning through career-building enriched educational experiences. The Program Advisor, Workplace Learning plays a critical leadership role in connecting students to workplace learning, mentoring, volunteer, and leadership opportunities. The position involves regular collaboration with all members of the UBC Career Centre team and extensive liaison with other UBC units, faculty, staff, off-campus organizations, and the public.

Work Performed
1. Strategic Program Design and Implementation:
Leads the design, development, and implementation of new high-impact workplace learning programs

Develops and leads strategic initiatives to enhance program reach and effectiveness, ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic goals and the VPS Student Strategic Plan and objectives.

Designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates strategic and comprehensive academic and non-academic programming tailored to support students.

2. Advanced Employer Engagement:
Acts as a senior advisor to campus employers, providing expert guidance on recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of student employees.

Develops and delivers advanced training programs and resources for employers, with a priority on equitable hiring practices, accessibility for all students.

Establishes, builds and maintains strong relationships with employers to support the development of equitable student workplace learning opportunities.

3. Student Advising and Support:
Provides advisory services to students, helping them align their academic learning to workplace learning experiences.

Develops and implements advanced reflective learning opportunities for students.

Advises students on academic and personal transitional topics, guides students in determining a resolution or course of action, and provides referrals to relevant campus supports to help students navigate their UBC journey.

4. Budget Management and Reporting:
Oversees complex budget, including projecting and managing substantial program funds, ensuring financial sustainability, and preparing detailed financial reports for senior leadership.

5. Program Assessment and Improvement:
Leads comprehensive program evaluation efforts, using data-driven approaches to assess program outcomes and recommend strategic improvements.

Develops and implements innovative assessment tools and methodologies.

Identify, recommend and lead the development of new pilot initiatives that are emergent from UBC community based on knowledge gaps identified.
