Community Garden Assistant

**In compliance with Canada Summer Jobs guidelines, applicants must**:

- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or have official refugee protection status, and be legally entitled to work in Canada
- be between the ages of 15 and 30

**Qualifications**:
∙ Interest in community development

∙ Ability to work well with management, board, staff, volunteers and others

∙ Ability to take direction well and to show initiative

∙ Experience working, studying, or collaborating with people from diverse cultures and economic backgrounds

∙ Gardening and/or permaculture experience is an asset

∙ Familiarity with the Kitsilano neighbourhood and the Westside is an asset ∙ Ability to occasionally lift moderately heavy to heavy items

**Tasks and projects**:
Primary task: Helping maintain Village Vancouver collaborative community garden sites (i.e. general gardening tasks such as planting, watering, weeding, and mulching.)

Other tasks may include:
∙ Supervising and coordinating garden volunteers

∙ Tabling at Village Vancouver booths at street fairs, festivals, farmers markets, or other community gatherings

∙ Developing educational and promotional material for gardening efforts ∙ Writing gardening, seed, or other food related articles for the Village Vancouver newsletter and blog

∙ Filling DIY planter kit orders

∙ Helping build raised beds and/or with other gardening projects

∙ Helping with Village Vancouver workshops and activities

∙ Other gardening, seed, and general tasks as needed

**Rate of pay**:$19.35 per hour + 4% in lieu of vacation.

**Job duration and hours**:
40 hours/week for 12 weeks (480 hours total), from June 8th, 2025 to August 30th, 2025. (Start and end dates may be adjusted.) Saturdays and Sundays, as well as some weekdays.

**Location**:VV community gardens/garden spaces primarily in Kitsilano and West Point Grey. Some work in other neighbourhoods, and potentially from home.

**Accessibility**: Gardens have uneven surfaces.
