Reporting to the Director of Operations, our **Communications and Marketing Assistant**will have familiarity with social media and various design tools, and be an organized but creative thinker.

Founded by Professor Peter Sankoff in 2020, CDE has become one of Canada’s most trusted and innovative legal education platforms. We serve hundreds of criminal defence lawyers across the country with timely case analyses, practical advocacy tools, and continuing professional development that reflects the realities of criminal practice. From _Case Alerts_ to _The Beacon_, from _Better Defence Lawyering_ seminars to our searchable database of over 900 resources, we deliver content that keeps defence lawyers informed, sharp, and inspired.

What makes CDE great is our commitment to quality and community. Every video, guide, and seminar is created by practising lawyers for practising lawyers — combining academic insight with real-world experience. We care deeply about the craft of criminal defence, and we believe technology can help us share that expertise more efficiently, more intuitively, and with greater reach than ever before.

**The Position**

This position is ideal for someone who is a great communicator and open to all sorts of creative tasks. You must enjoy being part of a small, high-performing team dedicated to excellence, and willing to perform a variety of tasks. You’ll work closely with our editorial and production teams to help grow CDE as a business. This is a position that prizes creative thinking, and there is plenty of room to grow as CDE does.

We are seeking a dynamic, outgoing and detail-oriented individual to join our team. This role is essential in managing internal and external communications, promoting our organization’s message, and ensuring consistent brand messaging across all platforms. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and engage with diverse audiences.

**Duties**
- Providing great content for our social media accounts;
- Assist with content creation, editing, and formatting for newsletters, seminars, and _Case Alerts;_
- Support the development of visual and multimedia content (graphics, videos, or podcasts);
- Communicate with subscribers about upcoming seminars and other CDE content;
- Come up with new marketing and communications initiatives;
- Work on strategies for wider exposure of CDE;
- Assist in developing CDE events; and
- Directly assist the Director of Operations with a variety of tasks.Develop, implement, and manage communication strategies that align with organizational goals

**Mandatory Qualifications**
- Degree from a recognized Canadian university, preferably in Business (Marketing/advertising), Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Design or Arts
- Based in Edmonton
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Active presence on social media, with interest in professional integration
- Ability to take constructive feedback and respond positively
- Motivated by excellence and a desire to improve
- Outgoing, friendly and collaborative personality
- Willing to try a diverse range of tasks without complaint
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Dog-positive (we have an office dog)

**Strong Attributes (not essential, but helpful)**
- Familiarity with criminal law or the Canadian justice system
- Familiarity with WordPress
- Familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT
- Video or podcast editing experience
- Design experience (use of Canva or similar tools)
- French language proficiency
- Past use of publishing software (like Indesign)
