**Research and Project Coordinator (RPC) - Cancer**
**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office (Edmonton).
**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hrs per week)
**The Organization**
Since its inception in 1928, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has governed the Métis people in Alberta. The MNA is led by a democratically elected Provincial Council, comprised of a Provincial President, a Vice-President, and six regional MNA Presidents and Vice-Presidents. This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting the practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for Métis Albertans in governments’ policy and decision-making processes. The MNA promotes and facilitates the advancement of Métis people through self-reliance, self-determination, and self-government.
**The Opportunity**
The MNA Department of Health works to improve the health outcomes of Métis Albertans. One of the ways this is achieved is through innovative health research and projects, supported by the work of Research and Project Coordinators (RPCs). RPCs play a key role in the development and delivery of health research and projects, which informs knowledge translation, knowledge mobilization, and the MNA’s development of health and wellness opportunities for Métis Albertans.
The MNA is recruiting a full-time Research and Project Coordinator (RPC) - Cancer. The RPC - Cancer will report to the Manager of Health Research, and will be responsible for coordinating cancer-specific projects according to funding agreements and departmental priorities, starting with the project described below:
- The current project in the cancer portfolio is funded by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC). It is an exciting and multi-faceted role that will build on previous Department of Health work, as the RPC - Cancer will support the delivery of the Alberta Métis Cancer Strategy. This strategy centers the self-determined priorities of Métis Albertans, based on community-engaged research.
- The Alberta Métis Cancer Strategy a) outlines future actions for the MNA and b) provides recommendations for Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) to include in the Alberta Indigenous Cancer Action Plan.
- The MNA’s Métis Cancer Strategy is informed by qualitative data (2018 and 2019) from engagement with Métis Albertans and their caregivers, focused on their cancer journey. It also includes, and is informed by, epidemiological data, and an environmental scan.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead the delivery of the Alberta Métis Cancer Strategy and work effectively with partners to facilitate the implementation and evaluation of the Strategy.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and partners, including Cancer Care Alberta, to facilitate relationship building, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Develop relationships with the Métis community, for current and future projects in the area of cancer.
- Create culturally safe and meaningful resources to support Métis people and their family members at all stages in their cancer journey.
- Engage with Métis Albertans to validate the Alberta Métis Cancer Strategy and other resources, ensuring that content accurately reflects the knowledge and voices of Métis Albertans.
- Develop and deliver information to healthcare providers to improve understanding of Métis Albertans’ cancer journey and to enhance Métis-specific cultural knowledge.
- Collaborate with and support the work of external evaluators of the CPAC project, including maintaining communications with evaluators and interviewing Métis Albertans, if needed.
- Plan and implement qualitative focus groups with Métis Albertan to gather Métis Albertans’ experiences about their cancer journey.
- Assist with preparation of articles, reports, and presentations for the Métis community, project partners, healthcare workers, academic audiences, and other audiences.
