Research and Project Coordinator (RPC)
Location: # Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta

Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent
The Research and Project Coordinator (RPC), under the direction of the Manager of Health Research, is responsible for the development and delivery of health research and projects aimed at supporting the health and wellness of Métis Albertans. The RPC will coordinate research projects according to funding agreements and departmental priorities, to inform knowledge translation and mobilization in response to the needs, priorities, and experiences of Métis Albertans. Research projects will be aimed at improving the experiences of Métis Albertans accessing long-term, continuing care, and emergency departments in Alberta and supporting life promotion efforts for all Métis Albertans. The RPC position requires a motivated, confident, and driven individual who is passionate about Métis wellness and culture and has excellent organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and implementation of focus groups, interviews, and other community engagement approaches in alignment with the principles of ethical Métis research.
- Support data analysis, knowledge translation, and knowledge dissemination efforts in collaboration with project partners.
- Support the submission of ethics applications in collaboration with project partners.
- Create and submit posters, reports, abstracts, and presentations for the Métis community, project partners, healthcare workers, academic audiences, and other audiences, as needed.
- Produce engaging knowledge translation products for diverse audiences.
- Create culturally safe and meaningful resources to support life promotion for Métis Albertans.
- Update project-specific resources for the Health Department website in collaboration with the Communications Department.
- Support the development of project - specific workplans and associated activities.
- Prepare quarterly project reports to provide updated information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend partner meetings to deliver updates and contribute on behalf of projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate relationship building and knowledge sharing.
- Foster and maintain relationships with the Métis community.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
- Experience working directly with Métis – or more widely, Indigenous – people is an asset.
- Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
- Proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including community, service providers, academic leaders, and government.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and changing environment, including demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and cope with stress effectively under tight and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Recognized strength in engaging groups and facilitation.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and the ability to engage with community members in diverse settings.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential and politically sensitive information. Strong political sensitivity.
- Experience in proposal writing and grant applications is an asset.
- Proven ability to develop, deliver, and implement new strategies is an asset.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in public health, social sciences, or related fields with a qualitative research or community engagement focus is preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Two (2) years' experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Experience working in an Indigenous health and/or non-profit setting is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Position will be based in office in Edmonton, Alberta.
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
- Must have a driver's license and an operational vehicle.
