Reporting directly to the Manager, Community Relations Unit, the Business Analyst is responsible for design, development, analysis, and maintenance of the Unit’s operational and business objectives (i.e., scheduling, electives, and housing) while providing strategic recommendations based on data.

The Business Analyst’s role at NOSM University involves offering support and problem-solving strategies for the continuous enhancement of operational efficiency, system architecture, data scrutiny, and database administration within the Community Relations Unit’s operational systems. These complex functions require collaboration with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Local Education Groups, Site Administrative Coordinators, Scheduling Groups, Northern Ontario Academic Medical Association, and Ministry of Health) to bolster data and operational projects at NOSM University.

**Responsibilities**:
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
**Business Analysis**
- Support the planning and implementation of the Unit strategic plan through the strategic mapping, evaluation, and monitoring of key performance indicators.
- Support for the development, management, and reporting of the Community Relations Unit’s operational needs.
- Analyze complex problems regarding the operations within the Community Relations Unit and recommend actions to improve performance and efficiency, or to mitigate risk. Preparing briefing notes and discussion papers recommending and advising the Manager, Community Services.
- Serve as an analyst, working with cross-functional teams regarding complex processes and procedures regarding scheduling, electives, and housing operational processes.
- Participate in requirements gathering, analysis and design activities to ensure systems (i.e., Microsoft SharePoint, PaNDa (NOSM U’s custom-build clinical placement software), Elentra (NOSM U’s assessment and evaluation platform) and Entrinsik Informer) meet academic and business requirements.
- Build and maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of functional areas where you are the primary support, and becoming deeply knowledgeable of associated systems, processes, and procedures external to the Community Relations Unit.
- Resolve administrative issues by analyzing information, identifying, and communicating solutions to the team and external stakeholders.
- Develop system workflows and documentation to illustrate processes and system functionalities.
- Implement best practices and continuous quality improvement approaches for system design, including scalability, reliability, and risk considerations.
- Provide training and develop training material for Community Relations Unit-based policies and procedures.
- Act as primary point of contact for all operational systems (i.e., SharePoint, Teams, Informer, Block Reminders, Clinical Preceptor Payments, Daily Return & Leaves) tasks and functions as it relates to Scheduling and Housing processes.
- Act as a secondary point of contact for all database tasks and functions as it relates to PaNDA

**Data Analysis**
- Analyzes complex problems affecting the Community Relations Unit’s operations and recommends action to improve performance and efficiency, or to mitigate risk.
- Develops and deploys end-user practices and tools for data extraction, queries, and data manipulation in accordance with business processes.
- Addresses data-related challenges regarding systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration between databases and operational systems.
- Creates data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy.
- Evaluates data models and physical databases for variances, discrepancies, and sources of potential risk.
- Performs analyses of internal NOSM U datasets concerning learner and faculty clinical placement distribution.
- Responds and completes ad-hoc requests and provides summary data about learners and clinical placements.
- Liaises with relevant external stakeholder groups (e.g., College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and Northern Ontario Academic Medicine Association) and organizations to ensure completeness and accuracy of administrative data.
- Assists in the development and promotion of data management methodologies and standards.

**General**
- Assist with strategic initiatives or projects as needed in conjunction with other Units/Portfolios.
- Receive and manage confidential, personal, and proprietary information using sound judgment to remain in compliance with all University policies and privacy legislation applicable to the situation.
- Represents the Community Relations Unit on standing and ad-hoc committees as requested.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
