Rumi Coffee Company is a specialty café concept located at the heart of the Halifax downtown area, inside the Vertu Shops. The café provides a refined food experience inspired by Middle Eastern and European cuisines. The menu includes a curated selection of coffee and tea drinks, desserts, baked goods, and sandwiches.

Our café is a welcoming place for all to enjoy time together and to create shared experiences and memories.

We are looking for an experienced Barista to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of espresso, coffee and tea drinks, as well as food preparation, and fulfill payments. Interest in baking is extra amazing

You are our first contact with the customer. Our brand ambassador. Your duties include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders in a customer-oriented manner. To be successful in this role, you are comfortable in serving customers and are knowledgeable of how brewing equipment operates. You should also be able to work various shifts and can work within a team.

Barista responsibilities include:

- Greeting customers as they enter.
- Help customers with the menu and answering their questions regarding ingredients.
- Taking orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios).
- Prepare and serve beverages and food following recipes as per set timelines.
- Receive and process payments.
- Keep area clean at all times, clearing trays, cleaning counters and tables, and managing waste.
- Maintain stock of clean mugs, cups, and plates. Restock supplies when needed.
- Operate brewing equipment as trained. Report any maintenance needs when they arise.
- Comply with local health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to the owners. Recommend new menu items and drinks when applicable.
- Perform opening/closing duties as required.

Role Requirements:

- Positive attitude and team player.
- Willing to learn and be trained.
- Able to deliver consistent, reliable, and repeatable results.
- Communicative and detail oriented.
- Respectful of own role and different relationships within the team.
- Prior recent barista experience is required. Prior experience working in the food and beverage industry is a plus.
- Moderate to advanced baking experience (plus).
- Flexibility to work various shifts Monday to Sunday.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences and work under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Professional attitude and presentation.
- Relevant training/certification (plus).
- Knowledge of local sanitation regulations (plus).
- First Aid/CPR training (plus)

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $15.75-$16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 25 per week
