A new community-minded café offers far more to our city than premium coffee and a delicious, locally sourced menu; it will be a welcoming place for people to connect, create, learn, and grow. Located within the heart of one of the most celebrated and inclusive spaces in our city, the Halifax Central Library, this is a space everyone in the community can be proud of. As a social enterprise that helps individuals facing barriers to employment, this café caters to the hearts, souls, and tastebuds of Haligonians. It’s proof that social impact doesn’t need to come at the expense of quality; we can have our community-minded, locally sourced muffins—and eat them too.

**Position Summary**

We are looking for a Barista to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea.

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills and knowledge of how brewing equipment operates. You should also be able to work various shifts.

Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent drinking experience for our guests

**Responsibilities**
- Taking orders and handling cash.
- Prepare beverages at the highest of standards following recipes.
- Greet and acknowledge all customers immediately with a smile as they approach the counter to collect their orders.
- Repeat customer’s orders by number and product before serving them to ensure accuracy.
- Keep the bar area clean; Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates.
- Follows standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating and storing.
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs to management.
- Comply with health and safety regulations.
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items.
- Follows store policy and procedures for operations flow at each station.**Requirements**:

- Previous work experience as a Barista or Waiter/Waitress.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
- Committed to work on both Saturdays, and Sundays.
- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment.
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations.
- Basic math skills.
- Knowledge of Point of Sales system.
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High school diploma; relevant training is a plus.
