**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Duties**:

- Using computer assisted drafting (Microstation, AutoCad), EGIS or manual drafting techniques

develops, and produces a variety of technically complex 2 & 3-D standards drawings such as
underground and overhead electrical, underground civil and metering.
- Creates and/or updates a variety of drawings such as; circuit location diagrams, Underground

Civil and Electrical diagrams, Distribution Operating diagram, Transmission under build drawings,
Overhead and Underground Pipeline and Railway crossing drawings ,submarine cable crossings
drawings, metering schematic drawings and substation layout drawings. Creates illustrations for
technical guides and material specifications. Creates graphs, charts, visual aids, maps and
profiles.
- Ensures that all essential design data has been received, researches relevant information from

other sources such as: previous project or other standards, performs simple calculations to
determine dimensions, elevations, and slopes, checks for obvious conflicts or missing information;
determines the most appropriate layout of drawing and design presentation.
- Performs elementary design tasks for engineers such as detailing of equipment, determining

location and placement by fit, determining grades for submarine crossing sites and Transmission
under build clearances.
- Prepares drafting work for tendering to vendors. Checks vendors' work for completeness and

accuracy and recommends approval of full or partial payment.

- Performs a variety of duties including obtaining price quotes; ordering drafting graphics and

GFIS Standard Committee, CAD Advisory team (CAT) etc.- Occasionally visits work and customers' sites for information and observations.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the

job.**Qualifications**:

- High school graduation and completion of a certified drafting program in AutoCad and

Microstation from a recognized post secondary institution such as BCIT etc. Completion of related-
- approximately 30 months experience in the drafting hierarchy.- Satisfactory performance in this job requires approximately 12 months to acquire the additional

knowledge and skills necessary to perform the full scope of the job.

**This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE).**
- Note that this drafting role utilizes DAD (Distribution Analysis and Design), the BC Hydro GIS
- Usual conditions exist in office which is over 90% of the time, occasional field work but does not

exceed 5% of time.
- Degree of physical effort required as working on detailed drawings using computer assisted

drafting equipment in excess of 70% of time.
- The role of a DAD Operate Drafter involves working on Plant Alterations (PA’s) by updating the

creating a variety of GIS/DAD related electrical 1-line drawings such as DOD’s (Distribution
Operate Diagrams), UDD’s (Underground Distribution Diagrams), Primary Maps and POCC
(PowerOn for Control Centre) schematics. All of these maps/diagrams need to be kept up to date
for field crew usage as well as for BC Hydro’s FVO (Fraser Valley Operations) Control Centre.
Because of the need for coordinated accuracy and the inevitable safety component, there is a
strong relationship between our DAD Operate department and the FVO Control Centre.
