Field Practicum Coordinator, Social Service Worker

Reporting to the Director, Clinical and Experiential Learning (Director), in consultation with the relevant Program Coordinators, the Field Practicum Coordinator (FPC) is responsible for developing, promoting, coordinating, implementing and maintaining field practicum sites, as well as supporting all Field Liaison and Field Practicum Supervisor relationships for programs offered by the School of Community Studies. While these programs may include Social Service Worker (SSW), Social Service Worker/Gerontology (SSW/GER), Child and Youth Care (CYC) and/or Honours Bachelor of Social and Community Development, this FPC will be primarily be responsible for the Social Service Worker (SSW) program.
**What You’ll Be Doing**
- Educating and supporting students, Field Liaisons, Field Site Supervisors and Sheridan Faculty about the practicum model, policies, procedures and requirements;
- Consulting and collaborating with the Program faculty, admin staff and community partners about the Sheridan Model for practicum; developing, promoting and implementing the Sheridan Model for practicum;
- Conducting classroom visits with students to educate them about practicum;
- Orienting students to the practicum requirements including the database system, policies and procedures, etc.;
- Responding to program, student and field inquiries about practicum requirements;
- Completing follow-up procedures to confirm practicum partnerships;
- Attending and providing field related updates at Faculty, Program and Professional Advisory Council meetings;
- Supporting students with Field readiness and career development;
- Establishing and maintaining administrative system, policies, procedures and documentation requirements for practicum related matters;
- Developing and maintaining programs, procedures and records regarding practicum;
- Collaborating with CEL Team to design, develop and implement Faculty wide systems and processes;
- Maintaining all supporting data and documentation required for students to have quality field experiences;
- Collecting and reporting data necessary for administrative reports (e.g., WSIB / MCU);
- Maintaining student field files and records required by the program and the Office of the Registrar;
- Developing and updating the Field Practicum Manual as required;
- Developing and updating resources needed by students ;
- Managing and updating practicum related information (e.g., forms, and documentation requirements);
- Compiling statistics and tracking information; Maintaining the administrative function of the database system;
- Contributing to the Program quality assurance process, through the completion of the Annual Program Report and the comprehensive Program Review by providing input;
- Securing and maintaining Field Practicum sites for the School of Community Studies;
- Vetting and securing new and innovative field sites that meet current program needs;
- Supporting community partners in formulating practicum descriptions that outline requirements for students;
- Ensuring affiliation agreements (FEAs) are signed and up to date;
- Making recommendations for ongoing program development with the goal of ensuring quality field experiences;
- Maintaining database system by providing practicum postings, agency sites, addresses and contact names;
- Consulting with the Program faculty and admin staff regarding practicum issues and needs;
- Assessing whether the community partner/practicum site meets the learning and practicum requirements of the respective program;
- Providing field personnel regular information and feedback regarding program changes and expectations;
- Conducting field visits as assigned by the Director;
- Developing partnerships and coordinates community relationships;
- Planning and organizing practicum events (e.g., Community Partner Appreciation Event, Student Practicum Fair)
- Representing Sheridan at relevant community meetings (e.g., Ministry of Colleges and Universities - consultation of School of Community Studies program standards review);
- Developing and conducting program presentations to community agencies and organizations;
- Outreaching to community partners;
- Performing other related duties, as assigned.
