- Executive**Vice Provost or Associate Vice-President, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)**
Today’s world is experiencing more change, more disruption, and more upheaval than many of us have seen in our lifetime. The health of our planet, innovations in science and technology, growing inequality, unprecedented work migration, political and cultural conflict are all contributing to an environment of constant chance and uncertainty. Many of us are concerned about the health and wellbeing of our children (and their children) but believe that collectively we can change course and ensure we pass on a world that is a better place ad a future full of promise and potential for the next generation.
Rooted in its bilingual and Francophone DNA, the University of Ottawa evolves at the intersection of cultures. This distinct environment provides a microcosm where new ideas and perspectives about our collective future - national and global - come to life. Situated in Canada’s capital, a gateway to the world, the University possesses the ambition and the ability to respond with ingenuity and creativity to the challenges and opportunities that our dynamic environment offers.
As the incumbent of this key position at the University of Ottawa, you will report to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs, and will be responsible for the strategic direction of the University of Ottawa in regard to EDI. Your responsibilities will cover two main areas, namely institutional leadership and engagement, within a broader mandate centred on environmental, social, and governance principles. You will work closely with key players, both internally and externally, to develop a culture of excellence in the institution’s core areas of activity and act as a catalyst and facilitator of forward-looking initiatives from the university community. In addition, you will work closely with the Academic Delegate for Indigenous Engagement and ensure the continuous improvement and sustainability of the University of Ottawa’s equity, diversity, and inclusion activities.
Your inclusive leadership and proven ability to work in teams, collaborate, and engage stakeholders will be critical to your success in this position. You also have extensive knowledge and proven experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion issues involving anti-racism, gender equity, LGBTQI2SA issues, religious equity, and disability equity. Finally, you communicate in English and French.
**Preferential hiring**
This hiring will be done in accordance with the principles of the University of Ottawa’s equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan, which aims to address the under-representation of people from six designated groups—women, people with disabilities, Indigenous people, racialized people (visible minorities), LGBTQI2SA people, and all qualified individuals with the skills and knowledge required to engage productively with equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.
We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.
The University acknowledges and respects that it stands on unceded Algonquin territory.
The University of Ottawa is proud of its over 160-year tradition of bilingualism. Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides staff members the means to become bilingual.
