The Richmond Food Bank is looking for a dynamic, outgoing, caring and compassionate individual to join our team as a Program Assistant.

**About the Organization**:
The Richmond Food Bank Society strives to maintain individual and community health by providing the food security and nourishment needed to sustain health and well-being. Each week our volunteers offer an array of fresh produce and other grocery items to over 3,200 individuals six days a week and in four locations across Richmond. We also offer a School Meal program to address hunger among students, a Home Delivery program for people unable to leave their homes due to disability or illness and a Fresh Gardens and Growing Program to promote food growing and sharing skills among volunteers and members from the community. The Richmond Food Bank is also a sharing hub for food and supplies to community meals, shelters, and other social service agencies that serve low-income and marginalized people in our city.

**Job Overview**:
The Program Assistant will play a key role in supporting initiatives that empower client self-sufficiency through food access, gardening, and nutrition education. This position involves hands-on work at our community garden plots, including growing and harvesting fresh produce. The Program Assistant will also plan and coordinate engaging garden workshops and nutrition demonstrations for clients and community members.

In addition, this position will support the operations of the Richmond Food Bank as a whole, including warehouse, client activities and events.

**Compensation**: $27.05/hour

**Schedule and Hours**:
This is a fixed-term 8 week position at 35 hours per week. Hours of work will fall within the hours of 9am and 4pm Monday - Saturday.

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible, applicants must:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

In addition, a police information check (criminal record check) will be required.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Experience in gardening, nutrition, and local food systems
- Willingness to work outdoors and engage in a variety of physical tasks
- Equipped, willing, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Must value social justice and food security
- Knowledge of MS Office is required
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset
