Purpose of Role

You will be a key member of a dynamic and innovative group of lawyers, clerks and legal support staff, providing the highest level of service to our clients, while having the opportunity to cultivate your skills as part of our successful national Insurance and Tort Liability team, within Canada’s premier full-service law firm.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

- The key responsibilities of this role are

  • You will be responsible for daily file management, including electronic organization, maintenance, and reporting on files- You will provide support on matters related to professional negligence, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls etc.- You will assist the Firm’s lawyers with drafting pleadings, preparing document production for the discovery process (including preparing charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence), drafting motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs and preparing for hearings and trials, acting as a liaison between lawyer/client and lawyer/opposing counsel and liaising with and retaining experts- Collaboration, teamwork and unwavering commitment to excellence

Key Competencies

- What you will bring to this role

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Law Clerk role with a focus on insurance defence litigation- Experience in the areas of commercial and construction disputes is an asset- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure- College Law Clerk Diploma or Institute of Law Clerks Ontario Certificate- Knowledge of iManage, ACL, Relativity, Kofax Power PDF, Word, Excel and Outlook- A team player with a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous improvement
