**Salary**: $2,885.79 to $3,799.43 bi-weekly ($75,319 - $99,165 annually)
The Modernization, IMT, and Research Branch provides data, research, and evaluation, and IMT services to support evidence-based decision making for all divisions within the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services. The branch reports data for business operations, assesses the effectiveness, efficiency, and implications of programs and services, links data systems, transforms data into insights, and generates new knowledge and data innovation to drive PSES and its partners forward.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Do you excel in roles where your expertise in emergency response or criminology can be combined with GIS to create actionable insights that shape Alberta's response to challenges?
Reporting to the manager, you will provide unique expertise on the integration of GIS analytics, development, and aggregation of both geospatial and tabular databases using a variety of data management and technology tool sets. You will provide analytical and technical leadership to assimilate the data requirements of diverse stakeholder groups and provide innovative solutions that build the geospatial data competencies essential to addressing the unique and specialized needs of the Public Safety and Emergency Services sectors of the Government of Alberta.
The main responsibilities for of the Crime & Safety GIS Lead will include, but are not limited to:
- **Building Geospatial Insights**:Harness geospatial data integration and analysis techniques to fortify the ministry’s situational awareness, policy development, and planning.
- **Leveraging Modeling and Data Exploration**: Delve into diverse datasets to uncover critical insights shaping public safety strategies and emergency response preparedness across Alberta's regions.
- **Providing Expertise**: Provide hands-on support and guidance to the ministry.
- **Supporting Efficiency and Modernization**: Spearhead initiatives for operational efficiency and modernization, ensuring agile and effective responses to emergent situations while adhering to evolving public safety standards.
- **Streamlining Resource Allocation**: Optimize project timelines and resource allocation strategies, ensuring seamless coordination and swift action can be supported.
- **Guiding Contracted Resources**: Provide direction to contracted resources, ensuring the delivery of high-impact solutions aligned with public safety imperatives.
- **Driving Continuous Improvement**: Drive continuous improvement through research and documentation, adapting methodologies to meet evolving public safety and emergency response needs effectively

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Recruitment Standard**:
- Two-year technical diploma in Geography, GIS, Criminology, Public Safety or a related field plus seven years related experience both in GIS and the area of Emergency Management and/or Public Safety/Policing/Criminology. **Related experience must be clearly demonstrated through your resume and cover letter.**
**Equivalency**:
- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Experience or knowledge that will be considered and asset:
- Established experience within, public safety and criminology using GIS.
- Experience using ESRI software including ArcPro and the Portal for ArcGIS environment, FME, and scripting and programing in Python, Arcade, R, or other languages to facilitate data modeling, scraping, transformation, analysis, and automation.
- Knowledge of the public service, government geospatial data, standards, and analytical methodologies is required to perform the duties of this position.
