Under the general supervision of the Customer Service Unit Supervisor, the Customer Service Representative is the main non-emergency point of contact for the walk-in public to the Winnipeg Police Service Headquarters building. The incumbent provides excellent customer service by addressing customer complaints and questions, provides information and assists with various service requests in a friendly and professional manner.
The most common service provided is processing Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check requests received in-person. The incumbent must thoroughly understand and follow the Standard Operating Guide to determine disclosure of convictions, outstanding warrants, judicial orders, pending orders, convictions and sentences under the YCJA. The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of criminal charges, court dispositions, convictions/non-convictions, indictable/summary offences, and printable/non-printable offences.
Some services include cashier responsibilities and physically obtaining electronic fingerprint impressions and photograph of customers purchasing civil fingerprints.
**As a Clerk B - Customer Service Representative** **you will**:
- Process Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check requests received in-person by thoroughly understanding and following the Standard Operating Guide to determine disclosure of convictions, outstanding warrants, judicial orders, pending orders, convictions and sentences under the YCJA.
- Provide information and assistance on a wide variety of services offered by the WPS
- Take electronic fingerprint impressions and photograph of individuals purchasing civil fingerprints
- Collect payment for various services
- Other duties as required
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Grade 12 Diploma, GED or equivalent
- 12 months customer service experience
- Demonstrated basic level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to keyboard accurately, 40 words per minute
- Working knowledge of RMS Niche, CPIC and WPS PoliceNet
- Demonstrated working knowledge of court processes and disclosures
- Must have ability to read and interpret complex guidelines
- Good attention to detail, ensure the accuracy of work and ability to verify information
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under varying situations
- Good organizational skills, ability to multi task and to meet set work targets
- Bilingual in both Canadian official languages (English and French)
- Well-developed written communication skills, basic level proficiency in French
- Demonstrated strong oral communication skills, intermediate level proficiency in French
- Ability to deal discreetly with confidential and sensitive matters
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals under varying circumstances in a professional and courteous manner
- The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment.
**Minimum Requirements**:
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Minimum 18 years of age
- No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
- No criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted
**Conditions of Employment**:
- Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check and maintain clearance
